@Kaohinani: So we kind of decided to only try once his cycle. Having a November baby worries me from a financial standpoint. My last LO was term but still in the hospital eight weeks. If that happened again (hypothetical LO would be induced Nov 1) I would be dangerously close to paying my deductible again Jan 1. So it was V-Day or three months from now to try again.

HDHP discussions... how romantic :silly:

@Ms. RV: Heck, if Saturday's is nearly equally positive and you & DH are TTC, BD tonight as well! You will have the V.Day spermies waiting and a new fresh batch coming ... Statically, you would have better than a 20% chance if DH's swimmers are strong and you do not have any reproductive issues (* PCOS, fibroids, endometriosis, primary or secondary infertility, polyps, clogged tubes, etc).
Affixed is a screenshot of a non-scholarly article on percentages of conception by date during one's fertile period. 🤞 :goodluck:

@Sams Mom: So here is Thursday night's and Saturday afternoon's tests next to each other (second from left and rightmost). They look the same to me which is why I thought I had multiple days of positives

I'm already a little (a lot) on the neurotic side, so once I get a positive, I usually stop testing. Based on temps I usually ovulate/temp shift the day after positive.

I took OPKs and temped for 2 cycles and had 2 days of positive OPKs both times. My darkest OPKs were the afternoon of the first. My temp rise was 3 days after the day of my first pos/darkest but I do think I might have a slow temp rise after O. So my guess is I ovulated appx 36 hours after the darkest pos, and as the tests were getting lighter.

ETA: adding a chart so it makes more sense

@MamaBear87: Also, the pic is very confusing. The leftmost is the last test, the rightmost is the first and the tests are upside down. So the first one is actually the negative one because the control line is on the bottom. I couldn't get the pic to rotate before it posted.

@bees_knees: That is so adorable.

@bees_knees: @MamaBear87: According to various scholarly (lab) studies, the range is larger than previously assumed which places ovulation between 8 hours as the earliest and 48 as the absolute latest for slow traveling ovum. I, myself, ovulate between 12 and 18 hours post my darkest LH strip and it has been proven through both U/S and tests on my LH, E2, and P4.
Keep in mind ovum only survive for around 24 hours unless fertilized; however, from the start of the surge to the follicle releasing an ovum counts, as well as, from the point that it begins it's travels, and ANY viable spermies in the "area" (from O-5 in lab studies to O+1) can possibly fertilize the egg. 😁

@Ms. RV: So, knowing Thursday was your darkest OPK, using the average of 12-36 hours post positive, you may have OVed anywhere from late Thursday evening (if you took your test early afternoon) to Saturday morning. 😉 P.S., Valentine's Day BD-ing is so romantic! 🙈🙉🙊😉

@MamaBear87: I was temping when we conceived DS2 and I ovulated 2 days after my initial positive (I didn’t mark which day was the darkest)...but that still falls within the 24-48 hour range. It def makes sense to me that it would be after your *darkest* opk. In the grand scheme I’d things, I guess 24 hours doesn’t make too much of a difference if you BD the day of your pos OPK 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Kaohinani: this is interesting. I always thought it was 12-36 hours after your first positive opk. I also had two full days of positives (4 pos opks overall) with my darkest tests being the second day. Sooooo maybe I ovulated a day later than I thought? 🤔 Not temping, so no way to know for sure!

@Ms. RV: they're dry so it's hard to tell but I think possibly only the first one is positive. Good luck on the Valentine's baby 😉

If you want to temp they now have several wearable thermometers that only require 3 hours of consecutive sleep. Ava and temp drop are both ones I know ladies on here use (my current pregnancy is an Ava baby)

@Kaohinani: We weren't going to TTC this cycle but then Valentine's Day got the best of us. So Thursday night (strip on the right) was the first one this cycle. Just looking at my cycle length, Thursday would have been ovulation.

@MamaBear87: Unfortunately, my sleep schedule is too erratic with a baby that doesn't STTN to temp :bummed:

24 hours after the initial positive. Sometimes you just have a longer surge than others. If you're also temping you'll likely be able to pinpoint better

After the darkest LH strip that you have had. If that occured during mid-tests, you would OV between 18-36 hours from then. If your last OPK was the darkest, it would be 18-36 post that strip. Ovulatory ranges are between 8-48 hours; however, the majority of women will find that they ovulate between 12 - 36 hours after their LH surge (with the most frequent being between 18 and 24 hours). You may also be setting up to surge but it may not happen just yet, and you will find your OPKs getting lighter AND then darker again as you gear up for actual ovulation. (* After 3 years of doing this, I have researched EVERYTHING extensively and have this down pat! 😉🤣) I hope my response was helpful. Good luck :goodluck:  !

I didn't have this issue with my last to TTC adventures....

This cycle I had positive OPKs for almost two full days. I tested Thursday night and it was positive and it kept being positive (not getting any darker or lighter) until very late Saturday.

So would ovulation start ~24 hours after the initial positive or after the last?
