@2PeasinaPod: You should try and reach out to Mrs.Someone because she had a couple of early losses and I think ended up seeing a MFM specialist because she could get pregnant but not stay that way. I'm sure she will have some great advice.

I'm sorry for your losses

Good to know on all fronts. I've had zero testing done to date since my OB really thought that I just had bad luck. Right...I really do think LO was my fluke!

I'm hesitant to join the IF boards, because I was able to get pregnant and have a child without any intervention. And I don't know that this is necessarily secondary infertility since again, I'm able to get pregnant.

So I'm basically going to prepare for every test under the sun for both me and DH, and a hold on TTC until all of that is finished.

I had two RPL's in the past year. The first one was MC at 7 weeks and the second was at 5. After the second the insurance covers seeing an RE and I got all the blood testing that was mentioned. I also got an ultrasound done. The doctors already had paperwork of our medical history from when I was first pregnant, so I didn't need to do another workup. Some of the bloodwork tests are timed with your cycle and by the time we got through it and heard results we could not TTC for nearly two months, which sort of blew our minds. Our results came back normal so my doctor recommended we start on clomid and progesterone. I am currently on cycle #2 on the clomid and progesterone, so no results as of yet.

@mrs. bird: wow! That is crazy! I want to say ours was 800 (so, almost 900 usd) each here, but I'd have to go back and check to be sure. Wow, 8,000 :( So much.

@TheSwissWifeStyle: so expensive! The genetic testing place billed my ins $8,000 for my bloodwork for my half. Not sure how much mr. Bird's was.

@2PeasinaPod: just want to say I'm very sorry, and RPL is considered a form of IF. I agree with what everyone else is saying about the testing. Thyroid, autoimmune, clotting, hormone (may do an endometrial biopsy) and karyotyping. I think that's everything?! Depending on your insurance, they may test the easier/cheaper stuff first. I think karyotyping can be expensive.

Best of luck!

@2PeasinaPod: I'm sorry for your losses

I've had 3 losses in the past year after having my daughter in 2012. I insisted on seeing an RE and had my first appointment a few weeks ago. At first you go through all of the RPL testing to rule out anything that could be causing the pregnancy losses. I wasn't able to get the HSG because of my insurance but I did all the testing and so far everything came back fine but we're still waiting for the chromosome testing.

I wish you luck :goodluck: and I'm here if you need to talk!

I'm so sorry. I had 2 before LO and 2 before this pregnancy. All mine were around 5 weeks. I had all the work up listed above - definitely push for testing. I never got answers but it did give peace of mind that we ruled out what we could. I had an hsg the first time around (normal) and this time they wanted to do a hysteroscopy with biopsy to check for endometrial infections or something. I know several of us from if boards who had that and then were given strong antibiotics as a result. That didn't make a difference for me. I ended up on metformin as I have mild pcos symptoms and whether through that or chance, this one stuck and I am 18 weeks. It can be really hard so also give yourself permission to feel whatever you need to as you go through it all! I wouldn't hesitate to post on the if board too if you like. Awesome supportive group

I would add that there are some autoimmune conditions that we're going to have blood work drawn for...once I'm no longer pregnant, that is...and if there's not something obvious on genetic testing. I'm sorry you're going through this.

I suggest asking about chromosome testing for you and your DH as well to be sure there isn't anything there causing your losses.

Eta: duh! That's what karyotyping is.

I have not seen an RE, but my OB ordered bloodwork for clotting disorders, karyotyping(for both of us) and an HSG. Since you have had a successful pregnancy in there I'm not sure if it will be the same.

I'm so sorry :(

I've had three losses, two of which were chemical. The RE did genetic testing/karotyping on both of us to see if they could find a cause. They also scheduled an HSG to check for physical causes, but I think they make everyone have one.

I was seeing an RE when we had ours. A few girls on HB talked me through it and suggested RPL (recurrent pregnancy loss) testing. It might be something to ask about!

As far as a first appointment with the RE -

Know your medical history and your partner's medical history
Know your family's medical histories
Expect to either have blood drawn there or leave with a prescription for blood work
Expect your partner to have to have an SA done...possibly. I'm not sure what the protocol is for repeat losses
I had an ultrasound done during my first appointment so make sure to shave. :silly:

Good luck. :goodluck: I'm sorry for your losses.

I guess I'm not 100% sure where to post this. I'm not sure it belongs in infertility since I am able to get pregnant, I just have recurrent losses.

After my 4th loss (2 before LO and 2 after), I'm going to see a RE next week. Any idea what to expect with this first visit? Anyone have multiple losses and see a RE? Just wanted to get a feel for what's next.
