@twodoghouse: We're doing pretty good, thanks for asking. The boys are finally getting over their colds and we're starting to settle into a little bit of a routine. They're still not sleeping that well at night but I have faith this will change soon. If not, my husband may leave me, LOL. While we are talking twin advice, how long did it take for your belly to go back to normal? I have tons of stretchy skin and belly weight and I'm worried it may permanently be there.

@twodoghouse: Ahh, good point. I am afraid of rolling over on one of the babies. I don't think I'll co-sleep with them. I'm thinking for some of the middle of the night feeding, it might be easier to sleep in their room and wake up when they do and then put them back in their crib. Oh, I think I'll also get a glider or maybe a recliner. Maybe we might have to get a twin bed and put the queen bed in storage. Ahh, all this furniture might not even fit in the room. Haha.

@marionberry: Glad it's not just mine! How are you and your boys doing?

Regarding the bed - we don't have a bed in our nursery, but we do have two big recliners. I've logged many hours sleeping there! I prefer being able to sit up if I'm going to sleep with them because a. I'm paranoid of rolling over on them or smothering them if I'm in bed and b. I can nurse both while sitting up in the recliner. Side lying nursing is awesome but I can only do one at a time that way. Sitting up in the recliner I can nurse them both simultaneously. You could, of course, sit up in bed, but it's always taken a lot of pillows to prop myself up in bed when I'm nursing both. I find the position needed to do both at the same time is a lot more precise than nursing one at a time!

@twodoghouse: not an anomaly. My twins don't show any interest in wanting to spend time next to each other.
@bluestriped bee: I personally don't see any reason for a queen bed over a twin. We just use our glider recliner in the event that we need to rest with one of the twins in their room.

@bluestriped bee: Maybe my twins are an anomaly! They like each other now and actually show each other affection, but they really were oblivious to each other for a while. Even when they started discovering each other (around 8 weeks because it was at 4th of July!) they didn't seem to find each other comforting. Just a new little person to touch/discover/taste. At 11 months old, they hug, laugh at each other, chase each other, and tandem nurse with one laying his/her head on the other's tummy, but still don't interact at all when they're in their cribs. They never babble, smile, laugh, wave at each other at all in there, although they can see each other in their cribs. It's like they just never notice the other when they're in there. They're probably too pissed off that I'm trying to make them sleep somewhere other than on me to take note of the other baby. I'm getting all nostalgic about them turning one soon, so I'll share a pic of them with Alice angry about having to sit next to Blake. This was super typical of the early days. One time when they were maybe three months old I put them together in the Boppy lounger and she just looked at him and didn't start crying. That was a turning point I guess, haha.

I don't have twins, but a friend did, and she had a beautiful nursery with 2 cribs. Turns out one baby was a heavy sleeper, who made lots of sleep noises, and the other was a light sleeper who would cry at the slightest noise... So Baby B ended up sleeping in a pack n play in the guest room so she could sleep. My friend said the second crib was a waste of money!!!

@bluestriped bee: we only had one baby, but we also had a queen bed in the room from before. Right now we have the queen and C's crib in the nursery, and while it takes up a ton of space, we do use it a lot. A twin would work too but wouldn't be as comfy with a squirmy toddler (when she can't sleep Dh or I will sleep in the bed with her). With #2 coming we are decidingn whether to get a twin for c and just put her in the queen. Def no room for another crib and the bed.

We have two cribs because I knew I always wanted them to sleep independently. I've heard sharing a crib can be a sids risk, although the divider probably negates that risk. When my LOs slept in our room they slept in the bassinets of the twin pack n play until Alice rejected that and started sleeping in the swing. At 9 weeks old we transitioned them to their own cribs. They never took comfort from each other when they were tiny so that wasn't a concern for me. Actually, Alice screamed when we tried to lay them down together for pictures. She must have known he was competition for the food. I'll see if I can find a pic of our nursery configuration when it was somewhat cleaned up.

We bought two cribs before they were born to have them ready. Even though it's against AAP recommendations, we did have them share a crib for the first few months. However, we wanted to have that second crib on hand in case they didn't sleep well in the same crib.

Their cribs are not set up next to each other because of the room setup with windows and I didn't want their cribs underneath a window. However, even if I could place their cribs next to each other, that would have only worked early on before they became mobile. Now that that they're toddlers, they definitely use naptime and bedtime initially to play around in their cribs. They definitely would try to jump into each others cribs and play even more. Also, now that they are so active, they sleep with their cribs pulled out from against any wall because otherwise the blinds are within their reach and they pull back and forth together to get it to rock and try to pull them down. The joys of twin boys!

I have 2 but started them off together. At 2 months old my little guy started worming all over the place so separated them. Mine are set up on 2 separate walls but put them that way just because it was the only way to get them both on internal walls. Our house is old with poor insulation so being winter babies wanted their cribs off external walls.

@marionberry: Oh, L shaped configuration. Good idea.

So right now the nursery would be in our current guest bedroom that has a queen sized bed. Pre-baby, I always thought it would be a good idea to have a bed in the nursery so one of us could sleep with the baby and the other can sleep in our master bedroom if they had to get up for work the next day.

Now that I have twins, we are wondering what to do with the queen sized bed. Should we get rid of it and buy a twin sized bed for the nursery or could we keep the queen sized bed and work with either one crib or setup two cribs?

We got two cribs because we know we'll need them in the long run and you'd hate to have one crib and have the style discontinued before you get the other. Right now we're using auto rnp's though. Our setup is l shaped to make better use of space in the room. I'm not sure if I'll like that once they get here though.

Your picture with white cribs is our alternative if I don't like the l shaped setup - it just takes up a lot of room.

Did you get separate cribs for each baby? I've heard you can make do with 1 crib and get a divider for the first few months.

I know there are other alternatives.

I'll probably register for two convertible cribs but maybe only set up one (with a divider) for the first few months and set up the second one when I need to.

We might be moving within the babies' first year. So that's why I'm thinking I might not need both cribs set up from the start.

Also, if you did get a crib for each baby, how did you set it up in the nursery? Was it set up based off of room configuration? Or did you have another reason behind it.
