I play the piano and took lessons for about 12 years. We have a piano in our home, and LO at 6 months loves to play it. :) I played the flute at elementary/middle school for five years but my lung capacity is crap so I totally sucked at it!

I was desperate to learn a musical instrument when I was a child but we really couldn't afford music lessons. One Christmas, my parents bought me a keyboard and I loved that thing!! I taught myself to play a little bit, using books from the library. My dream was always to own a piano... and a week ago (at age 34), I got one!!! I'm considering treating myself to some piano lessons now!

I started singing at 4, and learned a number of instruments after that (flute, piano, guitar, drums, etc). My husband and I are both very into music and play together regularly by ourselves, with friends or at clubs so we have a ton of instruments around the house. It has been so much fun to expose LO to them and the music we love. At 11 months old she has clear musical preferences and her absolute favorite thing to do in the world is sit on our laps and play the piano. She doesn't bang on it, she thoughtfully chooses keys to press, which is hilarious. My husband will play some kind of jazz line with one hand and LO will freeform above it - so cute! My brother started piano lessons just after turning 3, (he's a professional pianist now) so we're considering doing something similar with LO if she is still loving making music at that age.

There's very little that is more stress relieving stress than banging on a drum set!

Sax from age 10 through college, wouldn't mind playing again. Always guitar (still) and a little piano. I am planning to get a piano after our move!

I started with piano at age 7. I played trumpet from age 12 and through college. I played percussion in the high school orchestra and taught myself a little guitar in law school. DD and I had a parade around the family room with her on tambourine and me on trumpet just a few weeks ago! It's important to me that they both read music, and I will encourage some musical training as they grow.

I started with piano when I was six and picked up flute, clarinet, french horn, tuba and trumpet throughout school. As an adult I taught myself guitar and that's the only thing I play any more.

I also played violin and piano for 10+ years. I loved playing, so much. I stopped around 18-19 when it was too diffiult to keep up with when Istarted college. But if I could go back in time, I would have just continued with lessons. Now it's been so long since I've played that I barely remember the basics of violin. I do still play piano occasionally, and I will buy a piano whenever we actually get a house.

I've actually thought of going back to my violin teacher and doing lessons as a fun me time once I'm done with school!

I took piano lessons as an adult. My foray into music didn't last long, but at least my kids will have a nice 88 key keyboard to use.

I played violin for many years. Competed a lot and taught violin for a while too. I really don’t play anymore, though I’ve been thinking about it more and about mentoring elementary school violinists through my workplace (long story short, our office partners with local schools for various subject matter mentoring, they bus the kids to our work weekly for tutoring).

We plan to start LO with piano lessons in the next year or so, which she is very excited about already. I think the piano is a great “starter” instrument – teaches you to read multiple clefs, etc. Then she’s welcome to branch out to whatever instrument she likes!

I played the piano until middle school. I have a piano at my house that I play on once in awhile, and really enjoy it, but not often enough. Hoping DS enjoys learning a musical instrument! Practicing does suck though.

I played the clarinet from 4th grade until high school. I was a band geek, but I loved it.

We have DH's Nana's piano in our living room right now, but the keys are all broken. We need to get someone to come out to fix it, because LO loves banging on anyone's piano who has one!

I played the piano for a couple years in elementary school, but I never really liked it. I started playing the flute when I was 10 and played all through college. My mom is a professional musician and sometimes we play duets together still. I also dabbled in a few random instruments - I took the string bass for a year and the baritone for maybe 6 months.

DS will get lessons in whatever instrument he chooses. He's absolutely mesmerized by my mom playing the clarinet, so she's hoping he plays that. But string instruments are easier to pick up as a little kid, so we might try out violin with him at 3 and see how he likes it. My mom thinks his fascination means he's going to be a musical prodigy. I'm not so sold though.

I played the piano for a long time, and still love to sit down at my parent's piano to play. My husband plays piano, guitar, bass... he'd really like to get a piano for the house.

I played the piano for a few years - I actually have a piano now (my parents gave it to me when they moved) but it's horribly out of tune and only gets used when my son wants to pound on it. I played the flute through high school. The only thing I still play is English handbells - I played from age 10 to 19, and then went back to my choir a few years ago because they were short handed and kind of got stuck. It's pretty fun.

I grew up playing piano and violin, but stopped violin in 6th grade and stopped piano after college. Towards the end, I studied jazz and really loved it. I'd love to get a piano and get into jazz piano, but haven't had the time yet. I wish I could just get a piano though, because I think the kids might be really into it!

Did/do you play a musical instrument?
