@PurplePeony: Wow, that would be so cool to have all sorts of baby/kid books in different languages! Once your LO got really familiar with a certain book, it would be neat to be able to give them the same book in a different language - even if they couldn't read it, just seeing their favorite words would be fun. We have a copy of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" in Latin, which is a nice holiday conversation piece!

I adore Eric Carle books!

We were also given two copies of a book called 'I Love You Through and Through' and it is so sweet. It's become our go-to bedtime book!

My favorite book to read with LO right now is a board book called Disney It's a Small World: Guess Who! But I'm a Disney lover

Robert Munsch has great books to read aloud when LO is older.

Agree on Sandra Boynton--our favorites are But Not the Hippopotamus and The Going to Bed Book. I also like the tiny Dr. Seuss board books...you can get them at Target and I'm sure lots of other places, but mini ones are cool b/c the stories are short enough to hold the attention of my 5 month old, and are also her favorite thing to chew on. :) Whereas long Dr. Seuss books, like One Fish, Two Fish... are way too long for a baby. Or my baby, anyway. And Goodnight Moon! Or Goodnight Ipad, depending on your style.

@yoursilverlining: Oh, in reading over your list again -- we have a beautiful Winnie the Pooh book with several of the stories in it, but it's translated into my hubby's first language! Trying to decide whether to get English ones, too. He's visiting his family soon and I keep telling him that he needs to pick up lots of baby books while he's there (it's not a language like Spanish or French where you can easily find translations in US bookstores).

When we started building LO's library we started with the "classics" (sets, mostly!)

Winnie the Pooh
Beatrix Potter
Angelina Ballerina
Harry Potter (older than Kindergarden, but fun!)
Peter Pan
The Secret Garden
Corduroy
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Dr. Seuss
Pat the Bunny
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?

My LO's favorite book is "If I Were a Kitten", it has great textures for babies to feel, and is made by Jellycat. She also has some Fancy Nancy books, which seem to be very popular, but is too young for them now.

What are your favorite books for babies up through kindergarten-age? I want to start building a library of books for our LO, and I'm having a hard time registering so it would be great to put a bunch of books on there to sort of fill it out.

I remember loving the Madeline books, but I started reading really early and had moved on to chapter books before I started school. So my "book memory" for baby books is pretty much nil, and so many have been written since then!
