My 15 month old loves tv! His favorite show is fresh beat band and my husband and I sing the songs all the time.

He usually watches while I am getting ready for work in the a.m. then at night while i am cooking dinner. I feel sorta guilty but I was raised on tv and am fine. Also, I do think there are bunch of shows that are really educational.

I don't mind my LO watching television, and I leave it on the background for him while he plays. He isn't at the stage where he watches it just yet. I let him watch PBS and some limited shows through Netflix.

I grew up glued to the television and learned to speak both Cantonese and English. Even though I loved to be in front of the screen, I also loved to spend time outside. There are educational benefits that often get ignored. I learned so much by watching great shows like Sesame Street, Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, Reading Rainbow, and Magic School Bus.

My daughter has loved movies/tv since about 9 months. They are a life saver on the plane she can watch movies and be content for a five hour flight with a nap somewhere in there. She's three now and still enjoys it, however my son who is now 18 months is not a fan. He does like you tube videos of kiddie songs and prefers music over tv.

My baby loves TV too. He watches Dora, The Backyardigans, Sesame Street and In The Night Garden. He loves music and any time music comes on the TV, he dances. He's only 8 months old!

He only gets to watch a bit each day.

As I'm typing this my son is watching a commercial for some Fischer Price toy. He doesn't sit and watch whole shows since he is still younger, but he often gets stuck watching whatever is on for a few minutes.

Charlie is 22 months and has never been into tv, but he does love watching youtube videos. I kinda wish he liked tv so we could get a break sometimes. We have to sit next to him when he watches youtube videos, and sometimes he makes both me and mr. bee sit next to him!

Glad there are other parents "out of the closet" on this too. ;) Our girl has loved tv since around 1 year old, and I freak out slightly every time I read the pediatricians' guidelines warning about the dangers.

But actually, I think kids need downtime just as much as adults do. She tends to prefer tv when she's just too exhausted to keep playing. And depending on what you watch, it can be a great way to introduce children to material you wouldn't necessarily have the time or resources to show them. We mostly watched Sesame Street at first, and she loves letters and numbers much more, I think, than if mom and dad had just tried to say "hey, here are these things called letters...." And as a sort-of-hippie, I love the early exposure to racial and other diversities (kids with disabilities, Downs Syndrome, etc) on Sesame Street.

Tina, I never thought of Netflix streaming -- great idea! We usually watch on our cable system's On Demand. Now when it's regular tv, she doesn't understand why we can't rewind and rewatch the parts she enjoys. Kids today....

@Tina how old is he now?

Ya, Mavi is at daycare all day so no tv there.... so Im not worried and I'm all for making him happy during the little time we have together. On weekends, when it's nice we go to the park, go shopping etc.... so he doesn't ask for tv. He does grab my iphone and wants me to put toy story though. little bugger knows how it works. ha.

Honestly I agree with the above commenter... you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes! We never let him watch tv while eating, since we want him to eat in the kitchen, but sometimes we let him watch a video or play a game on an old iphone we have loaded with kids stuff. We stick with 3 shows mostly: Dora, Wonder Pets, and Blues Clues. Sometimes we'll turn on Sprout and let him watch things like Caillou, Curious George, etc. We'd love for him to watch Sesame Street since Rob Sr. and I both learned how to read by age 2 by watching it, but I think he's too young for it-- he loses interest in it.

We do try to limit his TV time, which is easier now that he's in daycare for most of the day and we try to go out on weekends. He used to beg for it. But now he just asks for it time to time, and even when it's on, he goes back and forth between his toys and watching.

Honestly I think that as long as you're not using it as a babysitter all day long, it's fine. When I was a SAHM I let him watch an episode of Dora every morning in the pack and play in our room while I took a shower. Made my mornings great.

Netflix streaming is a lifesaver, btw! They have all 3 of our shows AND they just added sesame street.

@Andrea my son dropped a nap but he rarely watches television on weekends except early morning or after his bath. Its more during the week... while i get ready for work. He sits in his highchair, eats breakfast and watches tv.

My daughter also started to enjoy TV at 15th months and can now sit there in a TV trance. That also coincided with her dropping all naps so now we let her watch TV on the weekends when we need a break. I think if she still napped we wouldn't let her watch TV yet.

So, I don't know if television was part of your life as a child. I know it was for mine (yet it never stopped us from playing outside) but my 15 month old LOVES TV.

Don't get me wrong, if he were to choose between going outside and watching tv, he choses outside (which I'm extremely happy about) but I can't help but be in amazement how he can sit quietly and watch Toy Story or any Disney movie for that matter.

Sure he doesn't watch the whole movie, but his attention span is much bigger than mine (when i was younger) or any toddler of that age.

Does your child watch television with such amusement? Luckily he's watching the Disney Channel so there are great learning life stories (to an extent) but I wonder if it will become a problem in the future.

(on a side note, when we were younger my parents would kick us out of the house and tell us we can come back only when our cheeks were red.... and I'm planning on making him play outside A LOT! - no videogames!! )
