@Banana330: I will look into this. Good tip.@LindsayLou: DH will back carry her but she's too big for me to carry. The socks perfect we are going to the beach.@jhd: thank you!@lamariniere: it will only be 3-4 weeks but it's been an added stress because she's already a patient at Shriners due to being physically disabled. So she will see her regular dr next week and I'm anxious to hear what he says since he's the real expert. My Mom will be in Europe till early August so I'll be relying on my babysitter more than usual. I'm sorry you went through this while you were pregnant! My mom was over today and reorganized her room and some toys for her new ability level.

Oh no! Poor girl! My DS had a broken leg at 2.5 while at daycare, I was also 5 months pregnant, so it was tough. My son was in a cast from mid thigh to toes, but he had a boot. After about a week he could hobble around with the boot. When we went out, he was always in the stroller. I could only put him in daycare part time during that time since they went out to the park every morning and couldn't manage him. We couldn't get the cast wet, so we could only do sponge baths. I had a few play dates at our house and he was able to play on the floor and crawl around. We also traveled one of the weeks he was in the cast, so we were at my ILs and they were able to help out a bit and distract him. How long is she in the cast for? My son was just 3 weeks, so at least it was relatively short. I hope she's feeling ok and the time goes by quickly!

@youboots: I'm so sorry you are going through this. I know you said she doesn't like the stroller much, and my LO didn't much either at that age. What did work was putting him in the stroller when he first woke up from a nap with a drink and snack. We actually did that this am when he woke up (3yo). He took his breakfast and we walked for about 45 minutes just in our neighborhood. We talked a lot about everything we saw and he looked for as many black, red, blue things as he could find etc. I hope others have better suggestions. I know this must be so difficult.

Not much advice, as my kiddo was much younger--4 months--when she broke her leg. But sending positive thoughts your way!

A few thoughts:
-will she tolerate being worn? And will the cast accommodate a carrier? We had a spica cast, but could still comfortably wear our Tula.

-women's knee high socks can easily be turned into baby leg style coverings for the cast. Makes it a bit prettier, but more importantly, protects against a bit of dirt and grossness.

-moleskin (meant for blisters) makes a great protective barrier around the edges and can also help with rubbing on sensitive skin.

-if any padding along the edges gets dirty or super worn down, it can be pulled out and replaced with sanitary napkins. Our surgeon recommended it, and it definitely helped towards the end.

-my little brother broke his foot at 2. I remember my mom bathing him by putting two kids chairs in the bathtub, having him sit on one chair and propping his casted foot/leg up on the other chair, with plastic bags around it.

you can get waterproof covers for casts. Maybe then you could do a sprinkler or something?

Now that the initial shock is over and we now have her in a cast after being in a splint for a few days I'm trying to figure out how to keep DD happy. She is 2y 4m- she's not in a boot so she can't walk, it's a full leg cast. Unfortunately it's not waterproof. She is a super active kid so this has been tough on everyone. She is not a big fan of the stroller and weighs 27 lbs so she's not easy to carry. She can sit up. We had to cancel a camping trip (too much sand, water). It's just hard because what I could do with my 10 month old does not keep my 2 year old happy and she's getting frustrated.

We bought a couple pairs of rompers for easy dressing.

We have lots of art supplies, she likes bubbles and chalk, luckily she can still go on the boat, she will read in her room and has been getting more screen time than usual.

I'm just so bummed last summer she had HFM and croup and I got bronchitis at the same time so we barely left the house for 6 weeks and the summer before DH had a broken arm.

I'd love any advice!
