Did they check for tongue and lip ties? Ours screamed for the first 6 months of her life, was super gassy, wouldn't sleep without being held, hated nursing, was diagnosed with reflux and put on ever-increasing doses of Zantac, and it turned out posterior tongue tie and an upper lip tie (which 3 pediatricians missed and one denied she was tied) was causing the whole thing. The day we had her revised, the vomiting and colic stopped, the reflux was gone, she ate calmly and slept well. http://Www.kiddsteeth.org has a ton of info on this super-common and often-missed issue. Good luck whatever it ends up being- I hope your LO feels much better soon!

My son was milk soy protein intolerant. He screamed for 12-18 hours a day at that age. My doctor had no idea what it was. I learned about it on the internet.

Our son had a horrible time with belly pain starting at 3 weeks and we tried gas drops (which only seemed to make things worse) and then gripe water which has been our salvation. J takes it on a strict every 4 hour regimen and it has really helped. It's a cheap thing to try if your medications don't work. Our pedi recommended it to us when he was having such troubles because he said that the medications really aren't proven to do anything anyway. I hope it gets better!

@ladybee: I'm so sorry you're going through this! M had bad reflux and our pedi put her on zantac, which never helped. She referred us to a pedi GI doc who put her on prilosec which was so much better for her. Definitely give the zantac a few days to work, but it sounds like your LO is having enough trouble that it might be appropriate to see a specialist if it doesn't get better soon.

My daughter was like this.... She seems to have a milk protein soy intolerance, and while it's getting better (at six months), I pretty much have to stay away from dairy and soy. We also had her on lansoprazole for reflux.

@swedishfish: yes, that is why we went for the ultrasound. We were told it involved an ultrasound, drinking sugar water, and then another ultrasound. The doctor didn't feel the need to go past the first ultrasound and said everything was normal.

Thursday and Friday M was projectile vomiting and inconsolable. Our ped rushed us in to check him out since he is only a month old. They sent us for an ultrasound to rule out a more serious issues since he cries uncontrollably during 75% of his feedings. Ultrasound came back normal and we started Zantac (1ml, 2x a day) under the assumption that its GERD or acid reflux. He had one dose Friday, two on Saturday and two today. He is still miserable. It also appears that he is struggling with passing a lot of gas. We are talking 10 loud, dry farts within 5 minutes. I don't know what to do for him!

I plan on calling our doctor tomorrow just to follow up but right now I am feel so helpless. Any tips or suggestions for helping my little guy?
