LO went through this kind of phase, and i really got the brunt of it during nursing sessions. maybe it's because they're figuring out how to grasp more and manipulate things with their fingers?

@MrsB2012: @StbHisMrs: @Trailmix: @Grace: Glad to know that this isn't an indication that I'm parenting a serial killer in the making or something.... not so glad to know that there doesn't seem to be a way to fix it.

This is the exact word we use for DD, who also scratches, pinches and slaps when she's nursing. Plus it's not uncommon for her to dominate her brother by pushing him down and crawling on top of him! I'm hoping this means she'll be able to stand up for herself later on in life?

Yes, I currently have what looks like a big cold sore under my lip
from her scratching me. She also scratches my chest and pinches.

B went through a faze like that too. Constantly pinching and scratching. She likes to do it to arms, noses, nipples ( yeah ouch ) and my face and chest when she's eating. She's a lot better now, she just kind of stopped on her own. I'd do the same as you, just move her hand and say gentle or ouch. Hopefully she just grows out of that for you as well.

Not really, but my almost nine month old loves to scratch and pinch (and hit, but I think that's an accident). I keep her nails super short, but she knows how to tilt her fingers so that they really dig in. She'll do it anytime somebody's holding her, and particularly while she's feeding she'll try to attack my face or chest. I try just moving her away and saying "gentle".

Anybody else have a kid like this? Were you able to discourage it? How?
