I've actually made that mistake a few times. There was once this boy (who I thought was a girl) who was dressed in a hello kitty t shirt. He was sitting in a blue stroller and a blue blanket so I was kind of confused but I figured I was safe with saying he was a girl because of his t shirt. I wondered who would dress up their boy in a rhinestone hello kitty tshirt. So I said "Your daughter's adorable!" and she looked at me and kind of sneered and said "Thanks. She's a he" and walked away. Oooops!

It's not just guys, it's women too. I had one woman come up to us when Lala was wearing a shirt with hearts on it and say, "Boy, it's a shame he's not a girl because he has the most beautiful eyes and eyelashes." I said, "Well, good thing she's a girl." And the woman got all indignant with me and said, "If you didn't dress her in blue, maybe people would get it right. You are going to scar her dressing her this way.

Ok, two things 1) It was a baby blue shirt with hearts on it. How is that boyish? 2) Up until the 1950's and 60's pink was a boy color. I don't see a bunch of WWII vets wandering around scarred for life because their moms dressed them in pink!

The only person to ever call my LO a boy was my great grandma. It wasn't really her fault because it was the first time she saw her and she was wearing overalls. But my little girl has always had massive amounts of hair and really big brown eyes, not to mention she is almost always wearing pink. I hate seeing people do that though, I mean obviously if the child is dressed in pink frilly clothes it is a GIRL!

All. the. time. LO really does look like a boy so I try REALLY hard to make it clear that she's a girl...But nope. People ALWAYS think she's a boy. Sad!

@tana_bk: She was sitting literally 3 feet away from him. Maybe he thought I was one of those moms who likes to dress her son in pink. :P

@Maysprout: Are guys really that clueless? HAHA totally doesn't help that my LO has fluff for hair.. but still. :)
@Mrsbells: crazy about the boy with the headband! I know it was an honest mistake.. but dang. maybe I just need to stick some flowers in her fluff or something. :P :)
@artbee: HAH. I try not to dress my LO in gender neutral clothes because people REALLY think she's a boy if i do. :P

It happens to me all the time. My favorite was when she was in a pink ruffle dress and hot pink diaper. Hubby said maybe the lady was color blind, but she had a ruffle dress on! She could be in pink from head to toe and people still call her a boy.

If she's in all pink, yes it annoys me. If she's in neutral colors I really don't care, but even her blue pants have ruffles on the bottom. Who puts ruffles on a boy? And really, she always has pink on her somewhere.

Some moms do dress their baby boys in pink or other girly clothes. I have seen a baby and was totally sure it was a girl due to the dress and headband but the mom told me it was a boy. I dont think he meanth any harm by it, Its an honest mistake thats easy to make with babies.

People always thought I was a boy when I was a baby. I had see through blonde hair that stuck striaght up off my head and I looked like Billy Idol! My poor mother put me in dresses all the time but it really made no difference.

It's really weird. I feel like when she's in her most pink frilly outfit someone will refer to her as a boy. I think she's too young to look very feminine but I do wonder if guys sometimes really don't notice clothes.

I didn't know where to put this--was looking for an Annoying People category but couldn't find out. HAHA. :P

LO and I met up with a friend for brunch and LO was smiling and "talking" to a guy at the next table. She decided to bite off a piece of paper, so the guy says to me

"I think HE still has something in HIS mouth. HE's chewing something..."

Me: Oh, thanks! Btw, my LO's a GIRL.
Guy: Oh.. REALLY?

-.-

My DD was wearing a hot pink gap hoodie and matching pink pants.. plus she was wearing black GLITTERY shoe socks!

Do women really dress their boys up in all pink and glittery mary jane socks?

I wanted to clobber him but I didn't.

Do people mistake your LO for the opposite gender? Does it annoy you ever?
