Thanks everyone! The open dots do correspond to the weekend when I woke up much later, and today I over slept by 1.5 hours too. I guess I will work on sticking that thermometer in first thing when the alarm goes off (vs an hour of snoozes later) and setting the alarm this weekend.

To illustrate why it's so important to temp at the same time every day - your temperature generally goes up .1 degree every half hour in the morning. so if you were taking it at 6 am and then took it at 10 am one day, that's a difference of 4 hours or up to .8 degrees. It might help a lot to set your alarm for sometime between 6 and 7 every day even if you have to go back to sleep on the weekends.

If this is your first cycle off BC, your cycle's probably going to be kind of crazy no matter what you do! It doesn't look like you've ovulated yet, but as @shutterbug suggested you might find it helpful to use OPKs too!

Some women are more sensitive to time than others as far as BBT goes, which is why time changes make some charts wacky but not others. For the most accurate charting, you want to chart at the same time every day, immediately upon waking, AND after 3+ consecutive hours of sleep. Coming off of the pill can also make it wacky for a while until things regulate themselves again, and the amount of time will also differ by woman. Try being more consistent with time, and see if that helps it to work out.

You should be able to take your temp at different times, as long as you get 3 consecutive hours of sleep before. But you can't lay in bed for 30 minutes before you take your temp, you're supposed to take it immediately after waking. This might be why your chart isn't showing a clear temperature shift.

Are you using OPKs? My chart looks wacky this month too (sort of like yours), but I'm using OPKs so I know I'm about to O because I got a positive yesterday.

I usually take my temp between 5:30 and 6:30 and it's usually not enough of a difference to make my chart look off, but 10-11 on the weekends definitely would mess up your chart. Try setting an alarm, temping, and going back to sleep. My thermometer has a memory so it displays the last temp when I turn it on again and I can record it when I get up for the day.

The time is probably making a big difference. You have to do it at the same time every day, week day or weekend. I would start there and see if it balances out. I would also consider this one a practice one and don't expect to really see much information out of it. Everyone varies on what really affects their temp, but mine is affected if I have more than a few drinks (goes way high, so I don't even temp those mornings); or if I'm an hour or more off from my usual temping time. I have gotten up and peed an hour before temping and then it stayed stable, but that's just what I found for myself personally.

So, take it at the same time every single day, don't do anything besides roll over, turn off the alarm, put thermometer in mouth. And note if the time was different, or if you were drinking, didn't sleep well, etc. It gets easier to remember, but I've been doing it for 4 months now and still forgot the other day.

I think the temping at different times is definitely affecting your chart. You should try and take your temp at the same time each day (or at least within 30 min of the same time). This includes the weekend--I usually temp then go right back to sleep. Also, you should temp first thing when you wake up. Lying in bed for 30 min before you take it will definitely affect your temp.

ETA: my first cycle temping was a little wacky, too. I think part of it is just getting used to temping. My charts are much clearer now that I have been doing it for a few cycles :)

I dont know how to link to my chart so I attached a picture. It does not look like any of the pretty charts I've seen here! It's just all over for the last 3 weeks. How closely do you have to take the temperature each day? I usually vary between 6 and 7am on weekdays and as late as 10-11 on the weekends. Sometimes I wake up and just lay in bed for 30 minutes before I remember to roll over and grab the thermometer. Would all that matter? I also stopped BC beginning of September, so this is the first cycle after my first period after stopping. It gave me cross hairs and took it away twice, which I guess makes sense, since I dont have an obvious shift yet. Can this be interpreted as remotely normal? Oh also, the 4 days marked as spotting were actually more like a light-medium flow, but there's no way my period would start again just a week later so I marked it as spotting so the chart wouldn't restart. I have no idea what's going on!
