We are all still pretty shocked and upset. The BIL was her sisters husband. The article came out on the accident. (although they kept calling her sister her friend)</p> <p>The 3 of them were in a canoe, and their BIL from Alaska was in a kayak. He took them to this river that doesn't get watched or maintained, so its known to be dangerous. They hit a log jam and turned the canoe sideways to try to paddle out of it. The current picked up in a spot and tipped the canoe. Her BIL was able to get on top of the log jam, but her and her sister got sucked underneath. The other BIL was able to get on the log jam too. They had to bring divers in to retrieve the bodies, and took them out by helicopter. Her body is still in Alaska, so I am not sure when her funeral will be yet.</p> <p>Our office is small. Only 3 ppl on day staff plus the Dr, and 3 night techs with one fill in guy, so we all work pretty close. I just can't get the words out of my head when the other tech told me. I am so sad. She was only 48, married, has 2 sons, and her grandsons were her world. It started at 5, and I remembered it at like 5:20. I just decided to skip it at that point. I totally regret it now, and feel sick to my stomach that I did. Yesterday (Wednesday) I got a call from a co-worker. He told me that our boss died that day. </p> <p>She left in the morning to go to Alaska for vacation. She was canoeing with her sister and her brother in law. Their friend, who was from Alaska, was in a kayak with them. They hit a log jam and tried to paddle out of it. The current picked up and tipped their canoe. The BIL made it on top of the log jam, but my boss and her sister got sucked under and drowned. The friend made it out too. </p> <p>I am so sick to my stomach about this. I am sick that I didn't go to the party and sick that this happened. She was only 48. </p> <p>Sorry for the ramble and sad post, but I didn't know who to turn to. </p>
