@MrsBrewer: Another good way to save on running shoes when you need new ones is to get fitted at a running store and then check prices online at RunningWarehouse. Sometimes they are similarly priced, but you can get good deals on shoes there too!

@evansjamie: I would gladly spend $30-40 on inserts! I just didn't want to have to spend $100-$150 on another pair of shoes when I just spent $80 like 3 weeks ago!!

These are the running shoes I have now

@MrsBrewer: It sounds like you are overpronating, which is what I do. What type of shoes are you wearing? For your next pair, you might need stability shoes, which you will want to get fitted for at a running store, but you should be able to go in with your current shoe and get some orthotics (SuperFeet come to mind, they are around $30-$40 bucks and you can get them at a running store) to replace the factory inserts in your shoes.

I puffyheart my rolling pin. I will even say I love it more than my hollow running-specific roller.

@MrsBrewer: lol. I had a friend that froze water in a big solo cup & used that as her rolling pin...

@Sugar.Biscuit: I normally always stretch a little before running, but I don't stretch a lot. I will definitely start stretching more after. Although I will say, I made DH give me a calf massage last night and that helped soooo much! So I bet the rolling pin idea would work wonders!! Is it bad that I don't even own a rolling pin??? lol

@MrsBrewer: get your inserts & before running stretch like there is no tomorrow! Use a good rolling pin like a PP had said then stand on the edge of a step on your toes and let your heal drop till you feel a good stretch, not pain, a good stretch. Repeat after your run, eat a banana, and drink some water. Sounds crazy but if I didn't do this every time I ran I'd be screwed!

@evansjamie: I just bought new running shoes. I didn't get fitted per se, but I love the shoes, and I think they are really comfortable. I made DH watch me run last night and he noticed that when I run I land on my arch of my foot. So my foot is like.....not bending in....but it's turning in a little. If that makes any sense. I know that I'm flat footed already, so maybe I need some good inserts in my shoes? Hmmm

So, I had problems like this when I first started running! The pain was concentrated on my inner calves, closer to my ankle than my knee. The thing that really helped was getting fitted for shoes. Also, using my trusty rolling pin to help massage the area. Definitely go to a running-specific store and talk to them about your issues. They will be able to help you find a shoe that works for you and help you on your form.

Don't heel-strike. It's bad for you. You want to go for more of a mid-foot strike.

You could just be overfatigued, especially if you're new to running. Even though you may not think you're running a lot, it is relative to your fitness level. Do you do other workouts? Yoga or pilates would be great for core strengthening and stretching out the muscles.

@Freckles: nope, definitely not shins. It's definitely my calf muscled....but its not the whole thing, just...the inner part! hahaha...oh man that didn't help at all. Let me try and find a picture and circle the area! hahaha

@MamaBehr: maybe it's running on my toes? It's pretty flat around where I run, not many hills at all.

So I should land on my heel more?

Maybe you are running on your toes? Or perhaps you did more uphill than normal? This has happened to me in the past too, but I can't remember why ahahha.

I have been going on walk/jogs every other day for about the past 2 weeks. I go about 2-2.5 miles each time. Nothing crazy. I've been trying to jog as much as possible. I'm jogging 2 blocks, and walking 1-2 blocks right now.

I always stretch before and after my workouts, and I bought running shoes which are amazing! I used to get shin splints quite often, but not anymore. But now, the next day my calves KILL. As in....I can barely walk. Stairs probably take 10 minutes per floor.....I feel like I'm 80 years old!

Why in the world would my inner calves be hurting soooo badly? Is it cause by bad form? (which I very well might have since I just started running)
