@Boopers: So far the water has been okay. We went ahead and took our showers just incase it ran out. Otherwise we have a huge case of bottled water and lucky for us my parents live the next city over so should we need to shower over there we can.

The weather is mocking us. What has been a VERY dry few weeks is suddenly POURING outside. I am tempted to go out with a bunch of bowls and catch some water! If only it were clean. Maybe this means they will be able to restore the water sooner?

This happened a lot where I used to live-almost every time it stormed, we lost water with no notice. It is a pain, but thank goodness you got notice!

We always filled the tub, buckets, and every pot and pitcher we had. Fortunately, it never lasted terribly long-a day or so at most. But it is unnerving!

Do you live by a fire or ems station? Ours always had free water to give out during these times. They may also be able to help! And if you need to buy water, do it NOW-it will run out in stores!

Thinking of you!

This happened to us in Boston as well! Luckily our town wasn't affected because we have our own water supply. But stores were sold out of bottled water for a long time. This actually happened on the day of my friend's wedding...!!

Maybe post on facebook and see if anyone nearby isn't affected, and see if they'll let a pregnant woman shower out of the kindness of their hearts? ;) I know I would have let anyone in to shower!! Also you could probably look in towns that weren't affected and stock up on jugs and bottles of water in those towns.

@looch: ooh good idea!!

I'd also fill some pots, so you can boil it for drinking water (and use when cooking).

Unfortunately, too many people aren't aware. One of my employees lives in your city and was clueless until I shared the news a couple of hours ago. I saw it on the news last night at 9:00. I bet half the city (or more) ran sprinklers overnight.

I get that it's August and our lawns will wilt in a second with the local heat, but we have a front moving in tonight (convenient!). I agree don't flush your toilet everytime, this will help conserve. And as far as laundry pick what needs to be washed to get you through the next couple of days and only launder those items.

If you have friends/family in a neighboring city - pay them a visit for a shower or load of laundry, inconvenient I know.

Water main breaks aren't all that uncommon, they just don't affect us most of the time.

Fill your washing machine too, if it is a top loader.

Fill the tub! Also, I subscribe to the "if it's yellow, it's mellow" philosophy, so you could do that for a few days (we flush once in the morning and once at night unless there is something more solid in there). Go out and get your water now before they run out, and fill spray bottles with water so you can wash your hair or get some dry shampoo to tide you over until the crisis has passed.

We just got this notice from our city:

WATER EMERGENCY The City of Where I Live reports the city will run out of water on August 13 due to Monday night's main supply line break.
- Turn off all outdoor irrigation systems until further notice.
- Do not water lawns manually.
- Only use water for essential personal hygiene.
- Use bottled water for drinking. Recovery expected by Friday. The supply line that broke was one of two main water supply lines into Where I Live from Dallas. All city water wells have been activated, but are not enough to restore water supply to its normal amount.

**It is crucial for residents to comply to these restrictions until further notice.**

Uhm... our water pressure is already low... how am I going to use the bathroom?!?! Try telling an almost 10 month pregnant woman she is going to have to hold it! I can deal with bottled water. I can't deal without showers and not peeing. Today is also my laundry day. I am not joking when I say we are OUT of clothes to wear. (I procrastinated a little too long...) Ugh... I can't decide if now would be a good time to go into labor or not. I bet the hospital has water reserves.

I have never heard of this happening anywhere before!
