I have shingles too and it sucks. It isn't active but I was told once it appears, you will get it again. Ugh... (Had no idea you could get it at such a young age! Mine first appeared when I was 20 on vacation in Hawaii... on my face!!!)

I was told that I am only contains when I have an outbreak and with your LO being so young I would be worried about them getting chicken pox since it isn't completely gone yet. It is only contagious through contact with the virus or sores but still a risk I wouldn't be ready to take. I also wouldn't worry about her being around the other kids. Like I said, it is only contains through the sores. Same with chicken pox.

I would postpone it. No reason to risk it if you don't have to. They will end up with pox At some point but there is no reason to hurry it up .

I had shingles on my neck in May while I was visiting my family..couldn't go anywhere and my family threw a big baby shower with a bunch of cousins and babies ranging from 6 months to 18 years. I had that part completely covered and tried to enjoy everyone since I see most of them annually. Nobody was affected or anything.
Might just be hard on your dad..I wanted to hugs all my cousins and nephew so bad but just played with them instead.

I had shingles while breastfeeding my 6 month old. Pp is right, you can't catch shingles. Anyone who has had the chicken pox can get shingles at any time. But if you've never had chicken pox, you could possibly catch it?

My ped just told me to keep the rash covered (it never blistered) and baby should be fine. But if you're nervous and didn't vaccinate for chicken pox I'd postpone the visit. Better safe than sorry!

I had shingles a few years back (on my face). It was absolutely horrible. My doctor told me I was only contagious if someone came into contact with the blisters, which you mentioned were healed on your dad. Mine never actually broke open, so it wasn't an issue. From what I also understood, you wouldn't catch shingle, but chicken pox. You must have already had chicken pox in order to contract shingles, but I don't think you can "catch" shingles from someone else. BUT I am not a doctor, I have NO medical experience, just remembering what my doctor told me. It sounds like he is in the healing process, so I would probably go IF it were my family.

I would ask your pediatrician, and ask your dad to ask his doctor too. If they're both ok with it, I'd go ahead with the visit!!

I would also postpone. My dad had shingles a couple years ago, and it was awful. He was in so much pain. I bet if your dad is feeling badly he would enjoy the visit more at a later date when he's feeling better and will be able to hold your LO!

and we are suppose to go stay with my parents next weekend!

Just wanted to see if anyone had any experience with this or advice. My dad’s Dr. said it would be ok to be around him, he just can’t hold LO/ no contact and had to be fully clothed all the time. But the nurse at our pediatrician’s office said "they don’t recommend it".

My dad went to the Dr. on Monday and was diagnosed and given meds. Today my mom said all the blisters are gone and everything scabbed over. My sisters 4 kids (ranging in age from 6 to 16) have been around him all week and have been hanging out at my parent’s house and none of them have had Chicken pox and so far no one had got them. Not sure if there is an incubation period or anything.
So if he doesn’t have any blisters and seems to be better is it ok to go stay with them? DH is still worried and I am torn because I really want to go, but not if it would put LO at risk.
