@Mrs.Mousie glad it is past you - that sounds awful!

@Mrs.Jacks do you have any thoughts on how to make a switching situation better? We'll be moving.. at some point before I deliver to a different state. I've had no issues and am pretty low risk, but thought I'd ask your opinion!

@Mrs. Jacks: I'd rather not switch doctors unless we end up moving. Generally speaking, I do really like my doctor, and I'm willing to give her a "bad day" token on that one. I'd much rather have consistency through my pregnancy.

@Adira: Thanks! Me too! So happy that's just behind me now and I can move forward with being happy and healthy :)

@Mrs. Mousie: Oh my gosh, YAY!!!! So glad your results came back and were positive!!! I KNEW you were because generally home pregnancy tests are pretty accurate. You can get false negatives, but FOUR false positives would be INSANE! So glad to have your blood test confirm it! Hopefully your next appointment goes much more smoothly!

I would recommend against doctor switching unless it's someone you really don't like or who you feel is not a good doc. Doctor switching has been linked with poorer outcomes in all sorts of health conditions.

Just as an update, I went for my blood test Monday (I was too upset to go back Friday) and the results came in today. I am most definitely still 100% pregnant. Stupid diluted urine..... Anyways, HOORAY!!! I've made another appointment with my doctor for next week to ask the questions I didn't get to ask last week :)

@tequiero21: The doctor that decided on the urine sample rather than the bloodtest said that I was going to be getting bloodtests this week when I saw my regular doctor anyways, so she was just trying to save me from getting stuck with a needle another time, and that if I'd taken 3 home tests that were all positive, she was comfortable in saying I was pregnant anyways. I suppose I should have insisted, but it was a pretty sound argument, and I never suspected that it would have been so diluted it came out negative!!

I just managed to get a hold of Mr Mousie and he wants me to switch to his doctor at a major hospital in the city. He's wanted me to switch for a while, but I've been resisting because I don't want to have to go into the city every time I don't feel well or have something simple I want to talk to a doctor about. His mom is really connected in the medical community, so I know we can have the best of everything once we tell her I'm pregnant.

@lydg: We're actually likely moving about an hour away in the next few months, so chances are I'll have to find a new doctor closer to our new location anyways, plus we're going to have a midwife. I'm not going to stress too much about the doctor part just yet.

Yeah, if my doctor made me mad/uncomfortable or worried me at the first appointment I would totally get a new doctor. I was in hospital with threatened m/c and didn't have a dr at the time-called the on-call dr the ER rec'd and the office staff was just so insensitive and they couldn't get me in for two weeks. I was put off by it from the beginning and SO glad I called around for another doctor and got the one I have now.

@highwire: I think it was really diluted, I remember looking at it and thinking it looked like I just filled it from the tap rather than peeing in the darn thing. I should have insisted on the blood test rather than letting that other doctor do the urine in the middle of the afternoon! I might force my way into another appointment after I do the bloodwork just to ask my stupid questions I had. I just wanted today to be so great! I was so excited :(

@Mrs. Mousie: I'm sorry that happened to you. That was incredibly insensitive. I agree with pp, you may want to get a new doctor, because you're going to want someone who will be "there" for you as you go further along. You still have lots of questions unanswered, and she could have at least taken a few minutes to answer some of your questions.

@Mrs. Mousie: I wouldn't worry about it then. You have all the signs and symptoms of a healthy pregnancy, except for one strange comment from the doctor. Maybe it was really diluted urine that wouldn't pick up a pregnancy test. I had digital tests that gave me negative results early on, but I was definitely pregnant.

@Mrs. Mousie: I don't understand why she didn't at least have you do another urine test right there in the office. That couldn't have taken much time. It just seems to me she should have been understanding of the fact that it would be quite upsetting to you for her to basically say she's not really sure if she believes you're pregnant.

I went for my first prenatal today. We were chatting, starting to go through the stack of paperwork and questions, when she says "Wait, it says here that you did a urine test last week and it came out negative." Puts away the papers and closes my folder. She then orders a bunch of bloodwork to confirm, but since she was running late for appointments (grrr) I was 10 minutes too late to go to the lab to get my blood taken.

So of course I ran home and peed on another stick, and it came out positive. Now I'm so mad because I didn't get to ask any of the questions I had, and I won't be able to see her again apparently until 10 weeks, nevermind that I'm scared sh*tless (pardon my french, but I have no other words right now) that something is wrong.

The only thing I can think is that the test I did at the doctor's office last week was urine rather than blood (different doctor, decided not to send me for a blood test since she knew I'd be having more done this week), and it was mid-afternoon, so I had likely drank lots of water, etc. I remember that my sample was nearly clear.

Deep breaths deep breaths. Trying not to freak out....
