@alphagam84: I don't do it often enough to think to buy dog toothpaste, but like I said, I use the natural toothpaste listed as it doesn't have anything weird in it. It has myrrh, fennel, and propolis.

@gingerbebe: It can be really dangerous to use people toothpaste on your dog. Try buying some doggie toothpaste (meaning it's safe for them to eat) and then go to town brushing!

@gingerbebe: That made me laugh because I have to shove pills down my dogs throat twice a day, when I first started doing that I would have to do the headlock thing. Now she is used to it, but I have to do this crazy jaw opening move which I would never do on anyone else's dog because I would be scared they would bite me! I also have to give her shots often so brushing her teeth may be my last resort. ;-)

Ummm, I don't know if this is kosher or not, but I've definitely just put my dog in a headlock with a toothbrush and natural toothpaste (Trader Joe's makes a flouride-free fennel flavored one that isn't minty) and gone to town on her teeth. Usually after she eats something suspicious in the yard or at the park. And then I give her Breath Buster biscuits from Pedigree.

My friend uses a foam mouth cleaner (like he one below). She has tried a few different kinds for her stinky dog and she said the foam ones are really fantastic because it gets everywhere in their mouth!

I have been thinking about trying this - has mixed reviews on plaque removal but good for bad breath

These has worked really well for us:

http://smile.amazon.com/C-E-T-VeggieDent-Dental-Chews-Small/dp/B001P3PR5O/ref=pd_sim_petsupplies_6?ie=UTF8&refRID=0R2ZS881GKKST0X8359M

My dog is 13.5 and her breath is definitely worse when she has a lot of plague. I give her this and it's fine for another day or maybe two?

There is this green gel I get at the petstore that you rub on their guns/teeth that freshens breath and also gets rid of plaque. There is also drops you can put in the drinking water too. I also love the dental bones from traders joes.

OMG the dog I am watching now...her breath is awful! I noticed a small difference when I gave her a minty flavored dentastix, by Pedigree.

I can smell it across the room. Anyone have any good breath freshening products that they swear by? She does have plaque but my vet won't do that teeth scraping thing where they put them under because of her age.
