Yeah, been there, with a puncture that took three days to heal! Other than the stern NO and ending the session, from then on I had to be really vigilant at making sure he was off the boob as soon as he was done eating.

Every time my daughter was teething she started biting. At 15 months she has 12 teeth it's not pleasant! I never successfully for her to stop. It sucks.

We had a biting problem, and the first time I yelled out in pain, he freaked out and went on a nursing strike :-( ... It is almost impossible not to yell since it hurts so bad, but it is something to keep in mind. He would bite when he was done and getting bored. What worked for me was just ending the session when I knew he had enough and when he started getting distracted. Sorry this is happening!

@shopaholic: hehe yeah... at the time it made me so angry! But looking back of course I laugh. He was definitely a good baby because he learned to not do it so quickly.

When Wagon Jr. stated biting it was after he had both top and bottom teeth. Oh my goodness I saw stars. Thankfully it didn't break skin. I screamed and it scared him. The next time it happened, I was ready and as soon as he started biting down I shoved my finger between his teeth, deep into his mouth (next to my nipple) and looked into his eyes and said "no, no!!" in a deep and serious tone, but not yelling. He actually laughed at me, I think. I did it a couple of times and he stopped biting.

@Thehistoryofus: Low supply makes sense for night time feeds! How do you take care of broken skin while still nursing/pumping?

@chopsuey119: Thanks for the tips! I am going to try the squeezing his nose/pushing his face things tomorrow! I can't imagine still nursing with a huge gash! How do you help that heal?

@shopaholic: No worries... Tonight I had to give him a bottle and pump because he kept getting so upset. We have had a rough day. Long term though, I want him to stop biting and keep nursing!

Ouch! That's a big fear of mine someday! What do you moms think about pumping and bottle-feeding breast-milk once babies start having teeth? Sorry if this is thread-jacking - I've just seriously always wondered about this issue too!

Oh man. My Lo cut my nipples so bad when she was going through her biting stage.. There was literally a huge gash at the base of my left nipple :(
Umm.. If the no biting isn't working, you can tell him no and push his face into your boob. Or say no and squeeze his nose..
Eventually they'll stop!

I am so sorry. My lo went through it around the same age. She bit me really hard twice once broke skin. I immediately ended the nursing session if it happened. The worst times for me was also at night when my milk supply was low and she was playing or getting frustrated.

DS is 10 months old and just started biting this week. Tonight was the most painful time and it tends to be at his bedtime feeding or when he is really tired. I take him off and tell him no but he gets so offended and cries and cries. Maybe I need to try the shoving him forward into me thing?

Ugh! It hurts so much and I am just hoping he gets over it. I tense up and stress now during feedings which is no fun either.

How long did it take for your LO to stop biting? Any tips???
