If it makes you feel any better, LO has broken out in hives several times due to food allergies. Our allergist had said that it would be very unlikely for a reaction to present in hives and then develop into anaphylaxis hours later. So you should be okay (not that that wouldn't keep you from listening to that monitor!)

@Mae: Oh good, I'm glad it matches and you have a likely cause. Yeah, I hear ya, these things never happen during the day! The night my LO had a rash, I called my sister in a panic at 10pm.

@78h2o: I think it's actually exactly where my MIL would have pick her up, since she didn't have her shirt on when she picked her up (so thumbs in belly area, hands/fingers on her back). Interesting about possible virus though. Sigh. Why do these things happen at night? if it was 10am I'd have all day to watch her!

@Mae: Hmm, that's bizarre. I'd be surprised if it was from the lotion, since it doesn't look like it's mainly where your MIL would have touched her picking her up, you know? This happened to my daughter once and I never figured out the cause. My doctor said it could have been related to a virus or something. I was worried too, but she was fine through the night. I'd probably check periodically though just to make sure she isn't wheezing.

@Mamasig: Yea I don't know either. I was contemplating calling the after hours doc tonight about benedryl but before I could find the number she was sleeping peacefully/normally. so she must feel fine. i'm definitely going to call in the morning if it looks any worse or even just not improving.

I think she'll be fine but I would keep my eye on her and check for breathing problems or swelling. I don't know if she can have a little Benadryl or Zyrtec yet. You could call the doctor and ask.

I think it's probably the lotion and no big deal. C has had a handful of red rash splotchy things and our ped was not concerned when I brought it up. I'd just go and peek on her a few times before you go to bed.

Honestly, I think I'm being really paranoid. But I'll feel better if I ask anyways. Because I'm a first time mom and my first instinct is to sit up all night watching my baby breath lol.

So LO has a rash. She did not have any rash at all as of 2pm when I took her outfit off to feed her avocado (which she has had 6+ times before). Afterwards we wiped her down and got her dressed. When I undressed her for bed time she had a splotchy red rash. It's not hot, not really raised. No fever, no facial swelling or rash. No breathing issues. It's really just on her back and her belly. Not chest or limbs or diaper area.

So I wiped her down with a warm wash cloth and put aquafor(sp?) all over it and put her to bed. She fell asleep fine.

My best guess: my MIL is staying with us and after I put LO down we were debating what the cause could be because we haven't put any new clothes on her or used new detergent or gave her new foods today (nor did I eat anything unusual that I might have had on my hands and transferred to her). In having that discussion my MIL mentioned she had put on lavender hand lotion at Trader Joes this morning when we were there about 11am, and she picked LO up out of her highchair when she was done eating and shirtless. I'm allergic to basically all fragrance so LO may be too.. wondering if she's having a bit of a contact allergy to that?

I feel like given the above we're safe to wait until morning, see how she is, and then call the doc office if it seems worse. But my paranoid first time mom is making me feel like I should sit next to her crib and listen to her breath all night long...
