@SallyNy: Thanks for the background on your story and I really hope that your diagnosis and the Clomid really help jumpstart things for you! It is great that you kept getting new opinions until you found the answer! And thank you for the info on the supplements. DH had a second SA and his morphology came back at 2.5 (last time it was less than <0.5) so we are hopeful. With my tubal issues, IVF is still going to be our only likely option, but we are hoping that we can get DH's side of things as tiptop as possible beforehand. My acupuncturist also suggested ginseng for male factor.

Again, wishing you all the best!

@sallyny thanks or the update. I can't believe you saw all those doctors and no one caught your pcos! I'm glad you have a real answer now and I hope Clomid works for you. What sort of fertility vitamins does your husband take? Did a doctor prescribe them?

Greenthumb, Leialou,

I just wanted to quickly get back and give you some context of what's been happening.

We received the SA detailed report. Post-surgery, all numbers went up except for morphology. All his numbers are excellent now (except for the morphology). The volume, count, motility and everything is normal. However, my husband has also been on fertility vitamins for the past 5 months. We will never know if it was the surgery, the vitamins or a combination of both that improved his numbers. However, I recommend those with male factor issues to take the vitamins. It's easy compared to everything else.

I have seen many of the top fertility doctors in the NY area but many have pushed for IUI or IVF. We want a baby; they can give us a baby. I've seen many doctors and not one have diagnosed ME with any problems. My husband’s numbers weren’t horrible pre-surgery. They were just sub-normal. I suspected all along that I might have problems myself. Today, I finally saw a good doctor. He gave me a sonogram on the first visit and immediately diagnosed me with mild PCOS. He suspects I have not been ovulating. He gave me a prescription of Clomid to start. We have been trying for 2+ years, I have always wanted to know WHY? I was almost ecstatic today when the doctor diagnosed me with PCOS. He also told me my husband’s numbers are not bad and the morphology being at 1% isn’t terrible considering the other numbers. Don’t give up hope ladies!

@SallyNy: Sorry to hear that the surgery did not have the outcome you were hoping for. But, with all his other numbers being good, maybe IUI or IVF will be recommended. Sounds like there are some ways around the low morph, especially IVF.

@Greenthumb, the next step was surgery. I don't know what else to do. I think next steps are probably IUI. Doctors will say it is not impossible to conceive even with low numbers b/c all it takes is one sperm. But it may take 10 years. But I think surgery was recommended b.c of the low morphology numbers.

@Leialou: Really? I thought that had a big impact on the ability to actually fertilize the egg. The only thing my GYN told me for DH to possibly improve morphology was no smoking, no drinking, eating well, and adding a multivitamin, but we've been on that plan for a really long time. I'll let you know what the RE says next week.

@sallyny @greenthumb my husband's urologist told us that morphology didn't really matter. I was really concerned about it because his number prior to surgery was a 1. I wonder if he said that to keep me from stressing?

@SallyNy: Have they said anything to you about if/how to improve low morphology? Or next steps if that cannot be improved? That was the only thing wrong with my husband's SA (I don't know the actual #s) and next we are headed to the RE to see what they have to say.

Hi,

He just got the results back. Everything is normal - concentration, motility, etc. Unfortunately, morphology is 1%. Prior to surgery it was 2%. Either there was no improvement there or it got a little worst post surgery.

@sallyny I will. I am curious to know about your husband's results as well if you don't mind. You are the only other person on here so far whose husband went through the same thing.

Thanks ladies. We have our follow up to make sure everything is healing nicely next week.

Yesterday my husband has surgery because he had varicoceles on his right and left side. It was an outpatient procedure and he is almost back to his normal self today. His urologist is very confident that the surgery will correct the problem and in three months he will have a normal sperm count. Yesterday while he was still feeling nauseous from the anesthesia he said, "This better a damn good kid!" The things we go through for bfps.
