That is SO COOL! My husband's company offers 12 weeks of paternity leave but none of it is paid and they don't have the option of short term disability like a woman who has the child would. What a great perk. :)

DH works in New Jersey which, as a state, mandates paternity leave! His boss is a workaholic and having his first kid in May. I doubt he'll take much leave but you better believe DH will be!

That's great!!! I am hoping DH will have paternity leave. I've asked him to check but I'm sure you can guess how that goes -__- He works for a HUGEEEEEEE company so it might take some asking around too. If not, he works 10 hour days so he could do both 3 day weekends in a row for 6 days off. He usually works 5 days but he could work 4 without an issue. It's annoying having to figure this out, I agree I wish the US was more progressive with parental leaves!

That's so awesome! DH has to use vacation time, and my "leave" is all unpaid. It's nice to see some companies heading in a better direction!

That is great! My DH's company has a very generous paid paternity leave (90 days) but he doesn't get to take it all because of work demands.

That is so great! I need to tell DH to look into his leave policy. His company is based in Canada, but I don't know what the American offices get in terms of leave.

That's awesome! DH works for a huge global company that just rolled out a 2 week parental leave last year right before E was born. It's great that Dads could get 2 weeks off, at 100%, but I think also kind of crappy that Moms only got 2 weeks of paid leave. Especially since this company is required to pay for maternity leave in other countries.

Wow-- that really is impressive! DH gets, like, 2 weeks, paid, so it's not nothing, and honestly he probably wouldn't take that much more anyway, but what you describe is really great.

@Sprite: BTW, I really love your avatar. It makes me happy every time I see it :)

I just had to share, because I'm still marveling at how awesome and progressive it is, given the crappy leave policies most US companies seem to offer!

My husband is a partner at a small company (no longer a "start up" because they've been around a while now, but similar environment), and just yesterday they rolled out a paternity leave policy! And it's better than what I'll even get for maternity leave from my company, which is kind of crazy. He will get 4 weeks at 50% pay, and up to 10 weeks off total, which, considering he doesn't get paid vacation days, is pretty huge. I'm not sure he'll take the whole 10 weeks off, and might work part time in his home office, but it's definitely a nice option for us to consider when the time comes!

I'm so proud of my husband's company, and him, because he helped push out the new policy, along with another partner who is going to be a first time dad in July. I just wish (as I'm sure we all do) that American companies could all be so supportive of new parents. And not just for maternity leave, paternity leave is important too, and so often gets overlooked!
