@nycalimama - Watching her get poked and prodded was the worst! Her cries were cries of pain and I just wanted to stop it. =\ But you are right, all the tests were necessary given her age.

We are home finally! Her fever broke by Sunday morning and by Sunday afternoon she was more her normal self as far as being alert. It seems it was some sort of 24/36 hour virus since none if the bacterial cultures grew. I'm so glad to be home and hope to never go through that again!

Thanks everyone for the support and kind words! It helps to have a place to let all my thoughts out. =)

@ElisaT: so sorry to hear this! we were in the ER with my 7 month old 1.5 weeks ago and I know it's really tough to see them poked and prodded. LO still has bruises all over her arms from multiple IV and blood draw attempts. She also got cath'ed for a clean urine sample. We didn't have the LP done because she is older than your LO. Also our story is a little different because my LO was vomiting, refusing to nurse and on the road to dehydration. So although the scenario was different, it was still very difficult for me to see her go through all those pokes and prods (and I'm a nurse too!), but I still definitely understand.

I'm glad your LO hasn't shown any signs of bacterial infection... hopefully it is just a bad cold that will go away with time. 22 days is young, which is why all the hoopla, but sounds like she is doing great... The fact that she is still nursing is a wonderful thing for her and you right now.

Take care of yourself too at this time (though I know it's hard)! Keep us updated!!

My husband and I are taking turns napping so one of us always has an eye on LO, and now is my shift. Sitting alone in a hospital room at night brings bad thoughts!!!!! >=\ LOs fever keeps coming back once the Tylenol wears out, but so far they have rules out flu and RSV, but they are giving the cultures 48 hours to grow just in case. It's so heartbreaking seeing her all hooked up. =( I can't wait to take my baby home.

I was going to say that it'll be more like 36 or 48 hrs if she doesn't have an identifiable virus. I'm so sorry you are going through this, but the good news is that they haven't found a serious bacterial infection. Frequently we never find the cause.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes! LOs fever came back again this morning so more Tylenol until they can figure out the cause. She just finished her second dose of antibiotics via IV but will need them still for the next 36 hours. Hopefully all the cultures come back negative and it's just a cold virus. We are in good spirits and can't wait to bring her home well!

@mediagirl @andrea - we just got admitted to peds while they wait for results from all the tests. They also have to administer antibiotics for 24 hours minimum as a precautionary measure in case it is anything serious. If the tests come back negative then the fever may have been caused by a virus (cold or something) and we can go home. She's still nursing well so that's a good sign! I hope we get the clear soon. =P

Our LO is at the ER right now with a fever and they are doing a bunch of tests on her since she is only 22 days old. =\ IV, blood/urine samples, lumbar puncture (ouch!!!) - I'm worried sick and it hurts me to see her being poked and prodded. Please send positive thoughts that she feels better soon.

Has anyone had any experience with Newborn with a fever? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
