A few weeks ago LM fell off the bed onto hardwood floor. Luckily we have platform beds so it wasn't so high... but I felt terrible. I had turned around for literally 1 second to pick something off the floor and then I heard the splat. She cried really loud for a few minutes but then quieted down. I was embarrassed to share the story, but once I did, most people who are parents totally understand. It happens. And Mrs. Bee is right, it usually hurts the parent more than the child! I've come to accept that LM will fall a lot more and hurt herself... it's part of growing.

Yep. Our babe was about the same age. I was in bed with her and she had a hard time sleeping. She started rolling all over the place and rolled right over the little pillow barricade. :( I saw it all happen in slow motion but out of hand reach. I was quite traumatized as well. I heard babies are protected by the soft spot that has some flex when they fall so young. Part of God's design?! :) Anyway, yes, hope it doesn't happen again. We dropped the bed to the floor after that happened.

Glad she's okay. My son fell off the bed under my watch once. It happens so quickly.
Most recently, our babysitter took him to the park in the stroller. On their way back, they heard the school marching band practicing and she wanted to take him to see. She rush over with him in the stroller, hit a crack and face planted my son onto the pavent. luckily, he only hit his forehead which is the best possible outcome for when hitting your head on something. That was the worse phone call I received ever. We went to the ER and everything was fine. My husband and I were initially livid! But it can happen to anyone and were pleased with how she handled the situation afterwards.

I would probably have been just as mad at my DH as you were at yours. In that situation, he was supposed to be taking care of everything so that you could rest, but instead he went ahead and took a nap himself without securing a safe area for your LO first to avoid both her getting hurt and you having to get up. I think it's okay to let him know that you're mad and that situation needs to be avoided in the future. But like PP's have said, I'm sure you will both make mistakes as time goes on, so try not to be too hard on him.

The night before our rehearsal dinner, my BM chose to fly into town on a flight that arrived at midnight. She had to stay with us because she couldn't afford a hotel and I felt bad already that she had to fly to our wedding. Since I'm such a light sleeper and sleep was EXTRA important to me that weekend, I asked my DH to take care of communicating with her and guiding her to our house so that I could get to bed at a resonable time and be refreshed the next day at our rehearsal (DH needs about 3-4 hours of sleep to feel fine while I need at least 8). He ended up totally bungling the job, losing the map and directions I gave him and not taking any initiative to look things up online. Instead he just woke me up and got me involved and I was so mad at him! Even though it's not exactly the same situation, your story totally reminded me of this because that is exactly how I would have felt!

When I was 18 months old, my dad was doing a photography shoot in the basement, and his model left the basement door open. I fell down the stairs. My dad stuck to nature photography after that (I found out about the incident when I found the photos years later.) When I was 3, I cracked my skull playing tag in a basement (slipped in a puddle of water - I remember the fall vividly. Apparently, I'd be giving a bloodcurdling scream, black out, then start the screaming again as soon as I'd come to, black out, etc. I also remember leaving the hospital - they gave me a banana shaped puke bowl, and I remember thinking that that little thing wasn't gonna hold any throw up.)

DS fell of the couch at like 2 or 3 months. He didn't even know how to roll yet or anything, and I laid him there and went to grab something and he rolled off. I felt so horrible. Luckily he missed the coffee table!

It happens, its life, and it will happen again, as hard as you try to not let it.

I freak out at the hubs, too, because in my mind I think, "I would never let that happen!" but accidents to happen and I have to stay calm. As long as your LO is okay and your hubby knows where he was wrong, then take a few deep breaths and move forward. And make a household rule of not leaving the baby on the couch. ;)

Thank you! I know she was fine, just startled. And I know I was wrong for making sure hubby felt as bad as possible. I just have to get over it. I mean, I can't expect either one of us to have an unblemished record- we're going to screw up!

charlie fell off the sofa onto hardwood when he was about 8 months because i turned my back for one second. he has had so many much worse injuries since that i don't freak out like i used to (he got a really bad one this weekend when he face planted on a bunch of legos).

i know it hurts you when your lo gets hurt, but it probably hurts you more than it hurts her. she will be fine and i promise you'll get tougher too as your lo gets older. :)

So sorry you had to go through that, thank goodness she's ok! I freak out over any little bump so I'm sure I'd also be going crazy if that happened to me. I'm sure your husband feels awful about it and will never ever make that mistake again.

and I'm still so angry with my husband, who let it happen.

Saturday night the baby (who is only 4 months old) was having a hard time sleeping. She and I were battling colds. My husband took her to the living room to get her to sleep allowing me a chance to get some rest. I woke up to the baby crying so loud and immediately knew what happened. He put her on the couch, fell asleep and she rolled off landing on the carpeted floor (I'm so glad we have carpet). I ran out and consoled her, then proceeded to freak the freak out on my husband.

How could he let that happen? He's usually attentive, He felt horrible. And I did not hold back from making sure he felt even worse. I know that's wrong.

She's fine. But I keep envisioning it and imagining how scared and helpless she was. I am aware that I may sound like I'm overreacting. It was just so scary!

Have you guys had a similar experience?
