My son wasn't breech, but screening is done at either the first pediatric appointment or at the hospital 6 weeks after the birth. It is required for all children born in Switzerland, which I think is a good thing.

Best of luck!

Oh, I also forgot to add that I was not breech, but I was the first born in my family.

I know nothing about this except I was recently chatting with an orthopedist and there was a little girl (a triplet) in his office who he was treating for hip dysplasia. He told me not long ago hd was not detected routinely, but that they have found that a lot of/most people who have to have an "early" (before age 60) hip replacement actually had hd when they were born. He told me hd is more common in first babies and multiples and that nowadays they can detect it so early that it should not be a problem after that initial period.

My baby was breech and we had to get a screening. She doesn't have it. I hope everything is ok and it's simple to fix. (((hugs)))

I don't know if my nephew had hip dysplasia but he was in a brace for the first couple months after being born. He is fine and (very) active now.

I had hip dysplasia when I was born and I'm totally find. No problems in my 31 years. I had a hard plastic diaper for a few months (so I'm told) and that was it.

I had it! My parents had to cloth diaper me and triple (!) diaper me every time so my hips didn't move. The only probs I have now, after dancing 23+ years, is I can pop my hips easily. That's all! : )

My close friend went through this with her son who was breeched. He had to wear a brace for about a year but was fine after that. I hope everything will be ok with your LO.

I have a good friend who just went through this with her little one. They ended up monitoring it and she didn't end up needing any additional intervention. I hope the same is true for your LO but, as someone who works at Childrens in Boston, I can tell you that you are in great hands. :)

Apparently this is very common with breech babies. So common that our pediatrictian requires ultrasounds for all breech babies at 6 weeks. So yesterday we went for the ultrasound and found out that our LO's left hip has some minor hip dysplasia. We see an Orthopedic doctor later this month to begin treatment. I'm not overly worried but I am sad for the poor little thing. I know it doesn't hurt her, but I just want her to be completely healthy. It helps that she's getting treatment at Children's Hospital in Boston too, which is one of the best. It gives me such peace of mind.

Did anyone else's LO's have this problem? If so, can you tell me how treatment went? I'm curious to see too how many other breech babies had this problem.
