My LO hates having his arms stuck in the swaddle - we did it a little in the beginning, but he is much happier if I wrap him and leave his arms out.

I second HBoB. LO hated it too but it gave me the confidence to stick with it. LO is 9 weeks old and I can now put him down awake in the swaddle and he can get himself to go to sleep.

My son hated the swaddle, but wouldn't sleep without it, either. Without it he would wake up constantly. With it, he would squirm and flail going into it.

At that age, I did the 5 S's to get my son to sleep (Happiest Baby on the Block). Swaddle, shhhh, side, swing (really jiggle) and suck (pacifier, though he sometimes didn't take it). It's really the only thing that got him to sleep.

Thanks all, good to know that every baby doesn't love the swaddle.
@PHDMommy - I've thought about the woombie, but since it was a little pricey I had held off. What did your LO wear under the woombie?
We did the zip up newborn version from SummerInfant, but it only goes up to 10 lbs and I think it may be too small (LO was born 9 lbs 3 oz).

My little gal hated the swaddle too after about a month. When I finally discovered the Woombie, she was ready to be transitioned out of being swaddled. But, the Woombie was awesome while she used it. It's loose enough that they can have their hands on their belly and together, but snug enough for them to feel secure. I'm definitely going to start from day one with the Woombie with the next baby!

Not sure if you can get these in the US, but our LO hated having her arms pinned down so this was a nice compromise to the swaddle situation. LO can still have her arms folded on her chest or above her head but she can't smack herself in the face or scratch herself. Here's a link...

For us, she wiggled and broke out, but then woke up. If I got a good tight swaddle on her, she would sleep much better on her own. We ended up doing the A&A blanket using the 'double swaddle' techinque (youtube how to do it:) and then put a summer infant swaddle me on top of that. We had to make sure her arms were flat by her sides or she would break out. She wasn't ready to sleep unswaddled until she was just over 5 months.

My DS is a month old today and HATES to be swaddled. He must have his hands up to his face for sleep. He also hates to be placed on his back at all. My grandparents gave us a great bassinet and DS hates it. Currently DH and I are camping as it were in the living room. DS sleeps on my chest while I sleep on the couch or no one gets any sleep.
That being said the only way he will sleep in his bassinet or pack and play is with a white noise machine. Which allows us to sleep in our room in our bed if it is at our house. I accidently forgot it however at my mothers house. So camping in the living room is becoming pretty normal.

My LO hates being swaddled. He'd fight and fight and work himself up until he went all Hulk-like and busted out of it, no matter the brand or how tightly we'd swaddled.

He sleeps in a long-sleeved fleece sleep sack now, always with his arms up over his head touchdown style, and he sleeps better than he did when we tried forcing the swaddle.

You might try putting her down in something like that just to see if it works. Swaddles seem to be great for most babies, but not all babies, no matter what Dr. Karp says.

My LO also hated the swaddle. I kept doing it until she was around 3 or 4 weeks old and then finally I gave up. No matter what I did, she would furiously kick her way out. She did really well not being swaddled, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

My LO is 4 weeks old. For the first 2 weeks, we swaddled (using the SummerInfant Swaddleme or A+A blankets). That seemed to work well and she would sleep in the bassinet.

Starting around 3 weeks, she started hating the swaddle. She fusses, squirms, tries to get her arms out, & won't lay down in the bassinet. So, I've resorted to sleeping on the couch with her on my chest & no swaddle. Sleeping on me, she will sleep for 5-6 hours straight.

I did try the miracle blanket swaddle 2 nights ago and she did better, but still squirmed, stayed wide awake, and wouldn't lay down in the bassinet. So we slept on the couch again.

Any thoughts or suggestions? I would love to sleep in a bed again :) I'm worried that we are setting ourselves up for disaster by sleeping on me...
