We got crib wrap rail covers from amazon. Worked well, prevented any more head hitting. They are soft and oozy too. They don't extend all the way down so no issues with breathing.

@cranberryapple: I know this is old post but it popped up and caught my eye. My LO (20 mos) got kind of a "rug-burn" on his forehead last week from banging/rubbing his head on the rail while sleeping. We bought these Go Mama Go Wonder Bumpers that individually cover each rail. They zip on. I think they work fine - only problem is they don't cover the corners! We also have something similar to the @anbanan15 made (but not nearly as nice as hers!) it's called a teething rail cover, which can also act as a cushion against bumps too. The Wonder Bumpers were pricey, but the rail covers are about $20.00. We should just bubble wrap our LO.

This happened to us too a few months ago, around 15 months! He actually grew out of it by the next month. But I was thinking of getting some kind or railing cover at the time. DS would have bruises and cuts all over his face, and he was already a good walker, just not in the middle of the night!

@tequiero21: aww sure!! They were really simply to make. LO loved the snap on teething rings I added :) You could put all kinds of toys on there!

@anbanan15: I want u to make me one too! Haha those are so nice!

I know it's against recommendation, but we use bumpers. Right now at 11 months, I don't think they need it anymore, just haven't taken them out yet.

I made these things to go over the top of the railings sort of like the those plastic crib protectors you can buy. They also sell the fabric ones. Mine had a lightly quilted material inside and were covered in fabric that matched DS's bedding. They buttoned on on the outside. We mainly wanted them to prevent DS from chewing his crib, but he never really slept in there or used the crib much.

ugh, it's the WORST!
I'd keep an eye on any of the big bumps or if LO seems odd after any of them. I wanted to put a helmet on DS, he fell in the crib soo many times while trying to walk in it. I wanted to like, bubble wrap the sides or something. Eventually they do learn to hold steady and sit back down. I want to say it was less than a week for DS. I remember hearing him on the monitor and seeing the bumps, I wanted to cry, too!

He would also slip and get his chubby legs stuck:

My 7.5 month old recently learned how to pull himself up to standing position in his crib. Needless to say, this is messing with his naps. The problem is that he will eventually fall over and hit his head/face. His face already has several welts from today. What can I do, if anything? Do I have to worry that he might suffer a head/brain injury from all this head-hitting? I assume this is a normal occurrence. When did your LO grow out of this, and what did you do about it?
