My mom did EBF then BLW with me until I was over 1, and then nursed my sister until she was almost 2! She said my sister's refusal to take a bottle would've kept her chained to the house, so she just breastfed her wherever. I also found out she had us both naturally - who'da thunk it? I'm assuming it was about for a year each, though I never asked specifically. I don't think she gave any of us formula at all. She never pumped though, since pumps were so crappy back then, so she was pretty much attached to one baby or another for a loooong time (obviously, she was a SAHM). </p> <p>I don't think she really had any issues, from what she has said, so it was a little hard for her to understand when my sister and my SIL did. I was bf until just after 2, right before my little sister was born. Then she bf that sister until the other was born 2.5 years later, then that sister was bf for 2+ years, too. Then a few years later she had my younger sister and bf her until at least 3. With my baby brother, she was older, had a 8section, and tried to bf but he didn't gain ANY weight and had to switch to formula. I remember her just nursing anywhere. She had to pump and she said I had a hard time switching back to the breast. She doesn't remember it being painful at all though like my sister and I experienced. She maintained for years that she couldn't because she was diabetic but she told me recently that she actually decided not to try because she didn't like the sound of it.... One of the reasons I just always assumed everyone breast fed. I didn't know any different growing up. It was not the norm, but my grandmother was a nurse and encouraged all her daughters to breastfeed. DH was not BF, so he was unsure about it. Her sacrifices make me super proud of her, and grateful that our Canadian maternity leaves have been extended so much this generation for me to enjoy a full year and hopefully bf! </p>
