DS is 4 and has only ever slept about 10 hours at night. I used to stress that he should be getting more but then realized he is fine and we can't force him to sleep longer. He also naps 2+ hours, so he gets the sleep he need through the whole day.

My son did 10 for a long time... 8-6 and sometimes up a bit earlier. Lately it's closer to 11 but he's a short napper too. Just low sleep needs I guess!

Both of my kids have always slept 10 hours at night. And my oldest stopped napping early too (like 2.5yo).

My 20 month old has low sleep needs. She's perfectly happy with 10 hours of sleep a night. She naps for an hour and a half some days, and some days doesn't nap at all.

I've read the normal amount of sleep at that age is prettt varied. Most 1 year olds are good with 11-14 hours a day. So if he's taking a decent nap, 9 hours a night is fine. If he's taking 2 naps, I would probably try to move towards one in hopes of getting a later wake up.

@Miss Flamingo: For a lot of kids, that wouldn't be enough....but some kids are just low sleep needs! My first was like that. I think she always got about 9.5 hours of overnight sleep (still does!), but then she had a 2 to 2.5 hour nap, so I thought she was doing well.

These days, she still sleeps about 9.5 hours overnight, but is also dropping her nap so sometimes she gets only 9.5 in a whole day. She seems okay though.

My 1 yr old sleeps about that much at night...8 pm to 5:30 am. He takes one nap a day at daycare for about 2.5 hours. He takes a cat nap when we first get him home. I'm trying to be faster getting dinner on the table to avoid that nap and push up bedtime.

His doctor didn't say he should be getting more sleep. I didn't realize he was missing something.

My 1 year old only gets about 10 hours (7:30-5:30). I've tried doing bedtime earlier, but it just winds up taking him longer to settle. Overall he seems happy though, so no help, just commiseration!

Is he on one nap or two? If he's on two, I'd drop a nap.

Hello! I don't know why but I just can't get this sleep thing right with my kids and I try so hard. I'm looking for advice or reassurance that this is ok?

My son is a terrible terrible sleeper. Although last month he started to sleep though the night but he would sleep 6-4. I've been working on making his bedtime later, in the hopes he will shift his sleep. For the past 3 week he will sleep 7:30-4:30 or 8:00-5:15. I don't get him out of his crib until 5:30 but he has only once put himself back to sleep. He puts himself to sleep at bedtime and all through the night. He seems happy but 9 hours of night sleep just isn't enough, right?

Any suggestions?
