@matador84: ok let me get more details tomorrow and I will walk you. But I'm pretty sure you treat it like an oven. Get the grill up to like 350 and cook it for about the same time. Obviously hard keeping the temp steady but not impossible.

@matador84: yup DH says use the pan. We typically get a throw away foil one from the grocery store and use tin foil on top.

Well better now than on Thanksgiving. :bummed: I'd find a premade turkey and find a way to watch Pieces of April. I was going to say rent but who does that anymore?

@Reese: no you are right--Home Depot is running Black Friday already...how do I know? Our washer broke last week and we had to get a new one! Sheesh, when it rains it pours.

We'd have to get a new oven anyway.,.might as well get one now...

@T.H.O.U.: so how do you cook it? Directly on the grates?

Oh no! With an oven that old I would go with some of the suggestions above as a temporary solution and look for a good deal. With an oven that old it is probably only the beginning of the end. Not worth dumping $$$ into

Is there a Whole Foods near you or another store that does prepared food? You can order a fully cooked and prepared turkey (and sides) online and just pick it up that morning.

It's about 3 days before thanksgiving and my oven broke! AWESOME. I have 3 options.

Replace the heating element IF we can find one, and get it here before Thursday. Our oven is probably from 1985 and it's a tiny wall unit. And my DH will have to take the oven apart to replace the unit on this type of oven.

If we can't replace the heating element, we need to spring for a new oven which is anywhere from 800-1000$.

Or, we can cook thanksgiving on the grill outside and treat it like an oven. Is that possible? My husbands suggestion. Omg.
