Ugh. I hear you! We've been co-sleeping, so there was never any anxiety about LO, as he was RIGHT there, but tonight is th first night in the crib, and although he's slept great for almost four hours, I haven't gotten a wink. Finally caved and pulled out my phone....

I don't sleep as well since we had LO. However when DH is off from work I sleep alot better. LO's crib is still in our room. DH tries to let me sleep as long as possible but sometimes it doesn't work too well.

I definitely don't sleep as well as before. The video monitor is on my nightstand and I find myself always waking up and checking it, even when I haven't heard any noises. But the anticipation of J waking up is why I'm hardly ever able to nap when he naps - I just know that as soon as I curl up under a blanket, he's going to start crying, so I just can't do it.

@Beebug: yep - when he was a newborn I was so tired I could sleep whenever whereever! He's still not STTN but I find myself waking even before he does because I'm anxious and can't fall asleep.

The only thing that has helped is wearing ear plugs when DH will get up and bring him to me. If your LO is STTN maybe you could just try the ear plugs? For some reason it just helps me "check out" mentally.

This is me too. I used to be a great sleeper. I would fall asleep easily and rarely wake up in the middle of the night. Now, even when LO STTN, I still wake up multiple times a night for no reason. I never feel well rested anymore.

Yes this is me and I never look at my phone. I am still not used to the night wakings and I always hear phantom cries and feel anxious about not hearing her crying. It sucks.

I didn't have this with my first child. I think my hormones are totally out of whack this time!

@JessLC: Agree! I have cut the phone completely, thinking that was part of it, but now I'm not sure it makes a difference, I just think it's beyond that because before I could totally skim my phone for a bit, put it down and crash....and now I can't crash no matter what I do!

The 4:30 time is the worst.....wake, nurse/change LO, get back in bed, can't fall back to sleep, DHs alarm goes off for work around 6am, he's out the door 7am, so like....no hope in hell of getting any more sleep....whereas before I could sleep through it all.

@apis: Yes! I was doing that right after we established her bedtime, staying up late because alone time was AWESOME! I eventually got back to a more normal bedtime to make sure I was getting the sleep I needed, whatever right now is, is about 3 hours (at least) of awake time between midnight at 6am, and much earlier wake ups for an already early wake up morning person....hating it!

Yeah I definitely have this problem and as @JessLC: said, part of it is due to looking at my phone. It seems even if she's fast asleep I'm on standby just waiting to jump up for her. I'm tireder this week than I was when she was born.

oh, i've noticed that if i don't putter around on my phone at all and try to keep my eyes closed while i'm up, i get to sleep slightly faster. if i look at my phone, i think my brain gets too stimulated and then has trouble winding down again.

I have the slightly related problem whereby I try to stay up too late, in order to do things that I couldn't/didn't do while LO was up, after I get home from work. So when he wakes up in the morning and I go get him, I've had much less sleep than I used to get ... but it's my fault, not his! The nights when I have made the conscious effort to go to bed earlier have resulted in a much happier daddy for my LO when I unswaddle him in the morning.

yes, i have this problem exactly. i used to be a great sleeper, i would STTN with no wake ups. now it takes me FOREVER to fall back asleep if i've gotten up to feed LO. its usually around 4:30am, so it's like that is my new wake up time because i can't fall back asleep! it sucks! and i wake up periodically throughout the night because my body had gotten used to doing it when LO was first born...11pm, 1am, 3am...bleh. and of course i look over at DH who is snoring away and i want to kick him!

Hi All. LO will be 4 months this week. The first few weeks were the first few weeks, and shortly after two months we really started to establish something that resembles routine, bedtime, etc and we got better at it as the days/weeks went on.

I have been struggling more recently as LO sleeps with a paci, and often needs me to jump up and get it back in for her, originally this was a non-issue, out of bed for two seconds, pop it in, and back to bed. I have become increasingly frustrated with her (and the paci) in recent weeks, but I am realizing now, that the problem is not her, nor the paci (though....I won't miss this phase passing!) it's me.

I used to be the best sleeper, hit the pillow and out cold, of course now with a baby I hear her the moment she needs be, but always had no issues getting back to sleep! The 30 seconds she needs me to put the paci in turns into 3 hours awake for me. I'm unfortunately not kidding. I was telling my boss about it and he said his wife had the same thing happen when their LO dropped a feeding during the day and says they think it just threw her hormones for a loop and eventually passed. I'm wondering if there could be truth to this as LO is now just nursing 4x a day (from 5), night sweats have returned.

I do have some other anxiety in life right now (bought a new house, just sold current one), but has anyone experience anything like this? Will MY good sleep habits come back to me? I am waking up like a miserable zombie and no one deserves to be around me when I am that miserable, and I don't want to get angry/resentful towards LO for it, when really it's my problem, not hers.

Argh.
