@brownie: I will have to bring it up with his doctor after we return from our trip. We need something.

@catlady: I am not really opposed to ice cream. So perhaps we will try it.

Would you be ok giving him ice cream? I just discovered this brand (http://coconutbliss.com/) and it is SO good. All the flavors are dairy and gluten free.

If he likes carbs, maybe baked or mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes with dairy-free butter?

@brownie: where did you find it at? Where I live shopping is pretty limited.
@Anagram: I didn't know about the earth balance stuff! That's super helpful!! I will be trying out coconut products with him.
@locavore_mama: Breakfast seems to be our best chance to introduce new foods. However he does prefer his rice cereal breakfast he wants to eat what I eat. ( I am gluten, dairy, egg, and nut free).
@Smurfette: I will try it!

Thank all of you have replied so far. :)

@Anagram: significantly. They have 3 flavors and my kid drank all of them. I wasn't the happiest because they were definitely sweetened but he was FTT and I had to do something and he would not take the neocate formula.

@Anagram: we cook dark meat a lot because it's closer to the bone hence more iron!

@MrsRcCar: hm seems he is picky too. So what does he like to eat? I would expand on that.

@brownie: does the splash taste better than regular Neocate? My LO is MSPI and has never taken to regular neocate, which is why I'm still pumping.

@MrsRcCar: I took a toddler cooking class recently and fats are super important. I was surprised to learn a few things (you may already know). My baby is also dairy free so a few things I remembered:

-always give dark meat to children (I used to always cook with chicken or turkey breast--now I use chicken thighs usually)
-fatty cuts of beef are good
-it's okay to use olive oil, coconut oil, almond oil etc. in abundance when cooking. Now I sautee vegetables for LO in coconut oil or olive oil a lot when before I would steam or boil or roast. There's also the Earth Balance dairy-soy free in the red tub for baking and cooking.
-Avocado and nut butters are calorie dense
-make every bite count, in terms of calories.
-also, for carby stuff that LO WILL eat, there are tons of gluten free recipe online. You can just substitute almond milk and earth balance if the recipes aren't dairy free to make them both gluten and dairy free.

I agree that coconut cream is delicious and fattening. Use coconut cream in place of milk in cooking recipes to fatten them up, like thai curries with coconut cream, lentils with coconut cream, etc.

This recipe is fantastic and delicious, and you can substitute coconut cream for more richness and added fat: http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes/coconut_creamed_corn.html

@MrsRcCar: We ended up buying the Neocate Splash milk replacement for more calories for ours. It is hypoallergenic. It's expensive but it was totally worth it for our little guy.

@locavore_mama: he does like peanut butter on his fruit. We did recently try pancakes but he isn't really a fan.
@brownie: he isn't a fan of eggs either. I will have to try coconut tho.
@NovBaby1112: I am not sure how much. He can't have normal pedisure but I will have to try pedi clear.

avocado
add oil to his vegetables, etc.
peanut butter or almond butter

How about trying hemp milk instead of soy?

I'm sorry, that must be so stressful! Is your doctor concerned? How much weight loss are we talking here? You said he loves breads and starches- have you tried those gluten free pastas, snacks, and breads they have? We use the gluten free pasta bc of my DH and LO doesnt notice the difference! It's so hard when they are teething to get them to eat anything though, so don't stress too much! my LO hardly eats anything while teething. Have you tried those pediasure drinks? (I think that's what they are called).

You aren't failing him. He needs more fats (soy milk isn't as fatty as whole milk). So you could try introducing coconut. My son LOVED coconut yogurt and we made whipped coconut cream. Also avocado and olive oil to as much as possible (i.e avocado in smoothies). Also I highly recommend increasing the protein and trying to get protein into every meal. Easy things like eggs for breakfast or nut butter on fruit for snacks.

You can do it. My son started gaining 1 pound a month starting at 15 months old.

What about looking for recipes that are gluten free and just substituting out cow's milk for soy?

I have a recipe for a banana oat pancakes that our whole family LOVES. There's no flour in it.
http://barerootgirl.com/nourish/2013/3/18/paleo-flourless-banana-oat-pancakes-with-blueberry-syrup.html

I make steel cut oats a lot and add peanut butter for extra protein but in your case the extra fat will be good too.

My LO loves carbs and bread a lot too. But I hate serving her empty calories so I'm always making pancakes, waffles, muffins etc that are "healthy" like ^.

You're not a failure!

ETA: also buckwheat is also gluten free.
http://tartletsweets.blogspot.com/2013/03/blueberry-banana-buckwheat-pancakes.html

Will try to think of more carby things I make that doesn't have gluten. :D

I need some ideas for putting/keeping weight on N. He has to be gluten and dairy free. I looking for easy foods to help stabilize his weight. When we took out gluten his rash cleared up but he started to lose weight because he is a breads and starch kind of kid.

I am struggling because he is also cutting teeth right now so he isn't too interested in food. He is normally a great eater. Here is what his normal day of food looks like right now.

Breakfast:
8 ounces of soy milk
Hot rice cereal with soy milk and applesauce
Fresh fruit (bananas, watermelon, strawberries)

Morning snack:
Fresh fruit or veggies
Milk or juice
Crackers (gf)

Lunch:
Small portion of leftover dinner/or pb&j
8 ounces of soy milk
Fruit or veggie
Maybe an animal cracker if he are everything

Afternoon snack:
Water or juice
Fruit or veggie

Dinner:
8-10 ounces of soy milk
A portion of our dinner
Crackers
Maybe some fruit if he eats everything from his dinner.

I am not sure what else to do. I feel like I am failing him. :(
