@youboots: The simplicity piece is huge. I think you'll feel it even more soon. You literally won't have time (or emotional bandwidth) for all the life clutter & stuff.

No lie, my favorite moments involve a warm cup of coffee, a little sunshine streaming in the windows, and watching Al climb in and out of our credenza. It's pure joy because it's so simple. She's happy, I'm happy. :)

@Maysprout: That's such a great point! We live far from our relatives, and we're some of the first of our friends to have a baby. I appreciate being able to connect with like minded parents, who make me feel like we're a team. It's wonderful.

There were a lot of good reminders in there. One thing though in parenting in the Internet age is I think it's given me confidence to parent in a way that makes sense to me. It isn't exactly like either of our parents and finding info and people who discuss alternatives have made me able to follow through with what feels intuitive but I may not have gone through with without finding info online.

Eh, there were a few too many points for me to absorb. The one that stood out to me is "More is better" for me it's not and the more I simplify the happier I am, which is one of the reasons slow parenting resonates with me so much.

I also believe that parents that care for themselves are going to be happier and their children benifit from that. I could never really find the words for that until I read Bringing up Bebe. This article touched on that.

But I'm not (quite) a parent yet sooooooo

Thanks for sharing!!

Thoughts on this article:

http://revolutionfromhome.com/2015/02/17-modern-myths-making-motherhood-miserable/

Points that stick out to me:

The piece about sending children to daycare in order to focus on your career. -- We are doing this now.

Investing in yourself & your needs -- I think it's easy to forget yourself while focusing so much on kids. A nice reminder.

There is a right way to parent -- The first year was really humbling. I've learned that there is simply "our way", and it's different for everyone.

Asking for help -- I'm really working on this!

Science is better than intuition -- I liked the "science supplements intuition" idea.

Overall, I found the title a bit dramatic, but I liked the content. I love being a mom. While I have moments of "the internet is ruining mankind", it's mostly enjoyable, and I appreciate having a source to field questions, and share information.
