Like Chopsuey, our child will have a korean name that the grandparents will exclusively use, so we aren't really keeping into consideration the pronunciation of our LO's name for them.

Our daughters name has a "v" in it and it's hard for a lot of English speakers to get it right.

haven't settled on names yet, but i don't think we'll worry too much about the english names, since they'll have korean names. also, i'll have to keep practicing with my parents to make sure they pronounce it correctly haha.

My grandparents are first generation from Europe, and my name is Jennifer, but in the german language there is no "J" or "R"sound. For years they called me 'Y'ennif'ay", but in the past few years they have learned to do the 'J' and 'R' sounds. It really wasn't such a big deal at all!

It's not a huge consideration for us, but I would like to have some form of our kids names be easily pronounceable by hub's parents. Though it will likely end of being a nickname form of the name. But I figure his parents will just have their own Khmer names for our kids anyway ;)

I have a friend who is Chinese named Randall. He told me his mom chose that name because his sisters' names both started with L's and wanted an 'L' name for him too but couldn't find any she liked. Well she decided on Randall because she knew all members of the family would end up calling him 'Landall' anyway. hahaha

We've sort of taken this into consideration. Since I'm American and DH is British, we wanted a name that was pronounced the same in either country. So no Bernard, Louis, etc. (Not that I really like those names anyway... but you get my point.)

I think overall - we're probably going to pick a name we both love; and my parents can adjust :P they will most likely give her a korean name and call her that anyway!! :)

i took it into account and kept our name really simple for both sets of grandparents. my parents call him by his american name and my husband's parents call him by his korean name anyway so i'm not sure how much it really mattered in the end. my cousin just named her baby something tough for the korean grandparents but it seems like it's working out fine, so i think you should just pick a name that you like!

I knew my parents would give our LO a korean name and would call LO by her korean name so we didn't really take pronunciation into consideration when deciding.
Turns out Micah is pretty easy for anyone to pronounce though! :) We wanted a short first name too since our last name is long.

My LO's name has a "th" in it and my parents obviously pull a "grandma bee" on it (hope I didn't offend, Mrs. Bee! Your mom is adorable when she says Olive's name!) and my in-laws (Chinese) can't pronounce it properly, either. LOL, so no, we didn't care - we loved the name so much that we were willing to risk having LO confused at three different ways of saying her name. :)

In my TTC madness, I've obviously started an ongoing, everchanging list of baby names! :) DH and I agreed that for the most part we are looking at short first names (as our last name is very Polish, very long!).

As I was reading our list the other day, I noticed that a lot of my top contenders (at the moment) have letters that are phonetically hard for my parents (1st generation Korean) to pronounce. "TH," "V," being the most obvious, difficult...

@mrs.bee I thought of your umma when you had her on video saying "OLIBE YAH OLIBEEEEE" LOL so cute!!

Anyway, my question is, for those of you with 1st generation ESL parents, did you take into consideration how easy or hard it would be for them to pronounce your LO's name? How did you decided on the final name?
