@Mrs.Panda: Glee was one of the first places I heard the name Quinn and that's what made me love it! I think it's a beautiful name.

There are a couple names that I love soooo much and would use because I love them enough that their popularity doesn't bother me. There are very few names like that for me because I don't trend toward names in the top 100.

I haven't had this happen to me yet (well that I'm aware of) most just ask how I came up with her name. I wasn't aware that her name was that "uncommon" until how many people asked me about it. I'm a name person so I knew it had been around at least online for while and was growing in popularity, although I did not know anyone with her name in real life. Now, a couple I went to high school with just named their daughter it too. Which I was fine with we aren't close with them by any means.

As someone with an uncommon name I totally get the frustration. As a kid people would sing a song with my name in it. Now there's a character on a sitcom. I will always know when my name is mentioned in pop culture. Having said that, I still gave LO an uncommon name and live in fear that it will become popular.

I'm the opposite actually, I love seeing Luna's name pop up more. I just saw a new kids show called "Earth to Luna" and got super excited about it haha!

Though it does get a teensy bit on my nerves of people ask me "did you name her after Luna in Harry Potter/Sailor Moon/My Little Pony (didn't even know about the last one until someone asked lol) etc" lol. I am not someone who would name a child after a character! :P

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Love Shameless!

Yes, we are naming our LO Quinn and that name seems to be everywhere, though usually for last names. I have never seen Glee, but I guess that's a character on there. Oh well, I love it.

@jedeve: We were at a local outdoor showing of Frozen the other night at the State Capitol and there was a two guy band playing beforehand. Their closing song was Cecilia and our Cecilia was so excited that they played it "just for her" ;)

@Mae: Shameless is dramedy about a dysfunctional family. The alcoholic and drug addicted dad is played by William H Macy and the oldest sibling caring for all the siblings is named Fiona played by Emma Rosen. The original series is from the UK. Shameless is in it's 3rd or 4th season and airs on Showtime.

Almost the same week that we had Cecilia, Pam on the office named her kid that. Everyone was oohing and ahhing over the name. I freaked. But we don't know a single other Cecilia except family members named after my grandmother.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I don't know what shameless is? I knew about Fiona apple and shriek if course, but those seemed "over " lol. I def didn't want an unknown name. I just don't want her name to be popular.

I didn't know there was a giver movie coming out! Exciting!

I think in Brave or Tangled or something the prince is named Eugene and changes it to something "cooler." Hopefully Gene won't be offended when/if he sees the movie! One of the kids in our neighborhood asked if he we named him after the movie character, haha.

@Mae: have you read he book? Fiona is a main character :) I'm excited to see the movie!
I understand your annoyance though. Who knew they would just now take that classic- 20 years old- and turn it into a film.

I would be surprised if there was a movie with J's name- but there are already a handful of athletes with the name so I guess I wouldn't be too surprised.

@blackbird: that movie was so disappointing compared to the book.

@knittylady: ummm what!? Do they not realize that movie is barely 10 years old?

I totally get that. I was irrationally worried that Kimye were going to use our baby girl name, but spell it with a K (we were due in the same month and C's name, obviously, starts with a C but has a K sound). Lucky for us, North wasn't one of our top choices.

Hate to break it to you...but she is in the book! Haven't seen the movie, but in the book she's one of his best friends and is the one he has 'stirrings' about, I believe she helps care for the babies in the community. I think you won't have too much to worry about though since fans of The Giver will already be familiar with her character!

I don't really care about stuff like this, but my cousin does and was pretty bummed when Fault in Our Stars came out since Hazel has always been a favorite girl name of hers.

@Mae: I'm irrationally annoyed by uncommon names that turn popular. We purposefully chose Chloe because it isn't popular, then it turned up on the Top 10 list later that year. Charlotte is old fashioned & neither of us had ever met someone with that name. Now it's #2 on the list!

I've told you my gripe with this before as your LO and I share a name. Someone actually asked me a few weeks ago if I was named after the Shrek movie. Excuse me?

ETA: I think thats the danger of a name thats unique at all. Any similarities in film etc will be more glaring than a more run of the mill name. Oy.

*Totally irrational annoyance here, I realize*

Do you ever get annoyed when a movie comes out that uses your LO's name? I really wanted a name for LO that was known but not super popular, and Fiona fit the bill perfectly for a lot of reasons.

Well my mom told me yesterday that they went to see The Giver and one of the main characters is named Fiona-- what? That isn't in the book!

So now I'm worried that the movie will be popular and Fiona will get to be a popular name. Boo. lol.

Anyone else worry about stupid stuff like this?
