In my circle of family and close family friends we have 5 Davids and 3 Judys and there is another woman with my (quite unusual) name - somehow we manage to (mostly) avoid confusion!

I voted wrong by accident. Doh! I meant it absolutely would not bother me. :)

If you have the friend's blessing, I would go ahead and do it! Even if you didn't, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Absolutely. My best friend's name is a name I love and if we ever had a second, we would name her that without question. The name is also my middle, was his cousin's and is another friend's name. :)

We are in the SAME boat. I love the nickname "Elly" for a little girl. However, my best friend (maid of honor in my wedding) nickname is Ellie. I'm having a hard time convincing DH that it's not weird. She's okay with it, and we wouldn't use the same full name as hers, but I just can't quite convince DH that we aren't naming her after her, and the spelling would be different ;)

Thanks guys! We did already let the friend know and he's cool with it, and I already call baby, baby Levi.

The funny story is that we chose the name out to dinner with Levi and his wife, they were the first to find out we were expecting (since I wasn't drinking) and the wife was like 'just don't name him Levi, I hate that name!', and we just looked at each other, like hey, we like that name. It's been Levi ever since. :)

My kids are Daniel and Matthew...I have several friends with both names, even though the names have nothing to our friends.

I would do it, but I would get the existing Levi's 'blessing' first. Then he won't be blind sighted, it's good to have him on board in case it comes up.

I have a friend named Bijou and I did the same thing with her. I love the name because that's the movie theatre I grew up going to at the coast. She thought it was great and game me the thumbs up.

Do it! We named our son after a friend who's name is very unique and is his family's name (our friend is the 27th male in his family with the name). We asked his permission, because obviously we "got" the name from him. But Levi is fairly common - it shouldn't be a big deal.

As for confusion we use "baby F" as a clarifier.

So husband and I have a name that we both love for our baby boy (which is so far the ONLY name we both like)... Levi Michael.

Levi, because we like the name. Michael after his uncle that passed away in May.

The 'catch' is that Levi is also a good friend of his. We're not naming our baby after him, but is that weird? I was 100% on board before because we didn't see this friend all that often; now he is moving 5 miles away so odds are we will see him quite a bit. I'm wondering if that will get confusing? Will people think thats weird?

Husband has no problem with it at all, and I do like the name.

Would you ever do something similar?
