@Artbee We haven't told anyone our names yet, but we are thinking of giving her the middle name of a deceased relative. However, others already have that name (or a shortened version of it anyway) and were named after that relative when they were alive. We also have closer living relatives that might feel slighted.

Our daughter will have two middle names: my mother’s first name, and DH’s mother’s first name. There hasn’t been any drama yet, but there will be after LO is born and we announce her full name and step-MIL realizes she wasn’t included in the naming, and only the two bio-mother’s names were included.

My daughter's middle name is my sister's first name, and my soon-to-be second daughter's middle name will be my other sister's first name. No drama at any point. But my middle name is my mom's sister's first name, so it's a family tradition. :)

We are planning on using middle names as a way to honor our familes. Our first girl will have the middle name Rhea which is a family tradition on my mom's side, it's my great grandmother's maiden name. Our first boy's middle name will be Michael, which is after my DH's brother who passed away when they were kids.

In the Jewish tradition we name our LO's after deceased relatives. We picked DH's great grandma for the first name and my great grandma for the second name. We wanted to pick people that we've either met or heard good stories about so we can tell LO why we named her after these people and the good qualities that they share. No drama, it's normal for Jews to do this so it was expected.

@googly-eyes: Are you wanting to name your LO after someone and getting drama for it?

Our daugter's middle name is after my husband's maternal grandmother. She was an amazing lady who was very special to both of us.
If LO was a boy the middle name would have been after my brother in law who passed away suddenly. The 3 of us did everything together. We were extremely close.

I fell in love with a name back when DH and I were just friends. We were discussing flowers and it was the moment when I realized (or admitted to myself) that I liked him. As I relationship progressed, I thought that would be the perfect name to name our daughter one day.

Fast forward a few years later and I find out that the name I fell in love is his sister's middle name. I was torn! Especially when I got pregnant and found out we're having a girl! I really loved that name but couldn't/wouldn't be able to stand the fact that our daughter will be named after a family member.

I didn't want to have to always justify our choice or correct people when they'd assume we picked the name because of his sister (whom I'm not very close to). Plus the name is pronounced differently here then how we'd say it in other parts of the world. The name's Linnea.

So we picked a different name that's more common globally, yet less common than Linnea locally. We're pretty happy about it!

LO's middle name is June, after DH's grandma. If we ever have a boy, he will probably be named after my late FIL. If we have another girl, I'll probably push for Josephine as a middle name, after my grandma.

Our LO's middle name is DH's first name. There wasn't any drama involved, people quite liked it. We almost gave him our grandfathers names as his middle name, but I ultimately left it up to DH and he went with his name because it flowed better.

Our daughter's middle name was my great-grandmother's first name. My great grandma was alive until I was 4, so I have a few memories of her. Even though I only knew her at the very end of her life, I know from my mom's stories that she was an amazing woman.

My LOs middle names are after my grandfather and father. My baby girl will be following tradition of using the same middle name as four generations. I would like to name her after my grandmother as well but still not sure. Her first name would be Caroline or Carolina after my grandma who was named Carole. My grandpa would call her Caroline sometimes.

Her middle name was chosen after my most favorite aunt, who passed away three months before Papa Jumper and I were married. Her name was Suzanne, and Little Jumper's middle name is Anne.

@Lags I'm also feeling a little guilt but I am pretty sure I want to middle name our LO after a deceased family member.

There's no drama about it, although I occasionally feel guilty because my living grandmother is an absolutely amazing woman who means just as much to me and I want to be able to honor her too.

Wagon Jr. is named after Wagon Sr.! No drama really, we did it because I love Wagon Sr.'s name (Robert). Wagon Sr. was a little hesitant because he felt it could seem a little self-centered to name his son after himself, but he got over it and I'm so glad. Wagon Jr. looks just like him and acts like him too so it's very fitting.

I actually always dreamed of having a little boy, naming him after his father, and calling him Junior! Luckily I married someone whose name I like :)
