I'm losing my mind with this napping thing. I also am looking into another daycare which is about $2,200 a month and has a ratio of 3:1 as opposed to our current 4:1. DH wants to give our current daycare some more time to see if they can get him to nap but I feel like they don't give LO the time he needs. The cool thing about this other daycare is they have 3 infant rooms, so the first is for the little guys, the 2nd room is for babies that can sit up and working on crawling and the 3rd room is for babies who can crawl and are working on walking. At our current daycare all of the babies are in 1 room. Also, interestingly enough this other daycare will dim the lights if the babies are sleeping. We are talking to our current daycare tonight. I'm just so tired of picking up a fussy baby who then falls asleep in the car and sleeps until I have to wake him to go to bed. I'd like to spends some time with my son.

@BabyBoecksMom: Holy cow! It's 100/day at my daycare and that's cheap for Boston standards. Many daycares in Boston are $2200/mo for an infant.

@littlek: Wow! Yes, that is for full time care at a top daycare center. There is only one or two other centers that just go over $1,000/month but most are around $7-800. That is for M-F 6:30am-6:30pm.

I would consider a nanny too, because my son has been quite sick in daycare....but it will up child care costs by at least $800 per month. We currently pay $1200 per month for 3 days a week of daycare and a nanny would be over 2K per month for just 3 days.

@littlek: prices are very much regional, but while a nanny share may be possible in some areas for 2 families each paying $750 each month, that's not average so you probably want to look into pricing for your area. maybe if it were half days. i'm a nanny and have worked nanny shares in the past and that's pretty far off from where i've been paid (that works out to $8.65/hr based on 40hr wks 52 wks/yr). i live in less pricey part of a pricey state =) i would think where i am would be slightly higher than average for the country, but not that much and here you'd be looking at double that for a minimum nanny share salary. if you have any nanny/ nanny share questions, feel free to pick my brain, or if you nose around on mrs. wagon's wall, i have some lengthy msgs about them =)

@Thehistoryofus: Is that full time? We are spending $1,600 a month for daycare now.

We looked into a nanny option but as a nanny share. It was a family that lived right around the corner from us. We pay about $850-$950 for infant daycare around here. So we figured we could do a nanny share and both of us pay around $750 which should be enough to cover a nanny.

@BabyBoecksMom: He used to have one teacher that was great at getting him to nap but she's left and since she's left his naps have gone from bad to nonexistent. I feel like his new teacher doesn't try as hard to get him down. That's why I think the one on one attention would help. It's a shame because I really like his daycare with this one exception.

I'll be subscribing to this.

I want to do the same thing with DD because she is always sick and does not sleep well at all in daycare. If she's at home, she's much better. I don't know if it will be possible to afford a nanny, but I really want to.

We have been struggling with LOs naps for about a month now. And I wonder if it wouldn't be better to pull him out of daycare for a few months (especially during flu season) and have a nanny. So, if you have a nanny, please tell me what you do or don't like about yours and things to look for in a good nanny.
