When I was a nanny, I expected a small one, because just like working for a company or any business you are given raises either based on time spent with the company, or your performance scale. They totally blew me away with a 10% raise. I live in an area of Brooklyn, NYC where there are lots of nannies, and I believe this is what is common. As a nanny I was never recognized for being there a year. And the one job where we planned to discuss a raise at that point, they didn't bring it up. I agree that a bonus would be nice, but a raise is not strictly necessary. She's been absolutely wonderful and I want to keep her forever. I plan on getting her flowers, balloons, cake to celebrate her being with us a year, but is a raise or a one-time cash bonus expected at this (or any) anniversary? </p> <p>I get a raise every year, but I don't know how this works for an employee. There's nothing in her contract on the subject. Her responsibilities going forward won't change (right now she takes care of our 1 year old, our pets and helps out around the house). I fully expect to increase her salary if (fingers crossed) we ever have another baby, but for now what should I do? </p> <p>Raise? Bonus? Nice thank you gift? Additional vacation day? Other ideas? </p>
