I would offer a raise, or a nice year end bonus. When I was a nanny, I expected a small one, because just like working for a company or any business you are given raises either based on time spent with the company, or your performance scale. They totally blew me away with a 10% raise. Wasn't expecting that at all, but I would have brought it up if there was no raise given.

My understanding has been that a raise is usually up for discussion. I live in an area of Brooklyn, NYC where there are lots of nannies, and I believe this is what is common. Bonuses are usually provided during the holidays.

You seem like a lovely employer! :)

I think a minor raise would be great. If thats not possible, maybe an extra day off or a cash bonus?

Its great to let her know you appreciate her!

You are so sweet to celebrate this anniversary! I know I would love that if I were her. I think a bonus would also be nice, or even some kind of gift card? Like a massage or mani/pedi or something? I'm not sure about whether a raise would be expected or not, but I did want to say that you sound like a very nice employer :-)

I think what you're doing is great! Honestly, I have a "professional" job and economic times are hard so bonuses and raises are hard to come by. I wouldn't think it's necessary.

Thank you for being such an awesome employee. I am also coming up on my year mark and I am not expecting anything. A raise and/or cash would be really awesome, though. Since you love your nanny so much maybe a raise would be nice. If not a week (or two) pay would be cool too. Eh, I can't decide because they are both so generous.

I think it's great that you're even willing to do that much! As a nanny I was never recognized for being there a year. And the one job where we planned to discuss a raise at that point, they didn't bring it up. I agree that a bonus would be nice, but a raise is not strictly necessary. Though to be honest I never worked a retail job where I *didn't* get a raise by at least a year, so if you want it to be more like a different sort of job with comparable pay, you might consider it.

I think all that you are doing is super nice. A bonus would be nice, but I am not sure a raise is necessary. I don't have a nanny though so I may be totally off.

Hi everyone! This is my first post, so thank you in advance for any feedback.

We are getting ready to celebrate the one year anniversary with our nanny. She's been absolutely wonderful and I want to keep her forever. I plan on getting her flowers, balloons, cake to celebrate her being with us a year, but is a raise or a one-time cash bonus expected at this (or any) anniversary?

I get a raise every year, but I don't know how this works for an employee. There's nothing in her contract on the subject. Her responsibilities going forward won't change (right now she takes care of our 1 year old, our pets and helps out around the house). I fully expect to increase her salary if (fingers crossed) we ever have another baby, but for now what should I do?

Raise? Bonus? Nice thank you gift? Additional vacation day? Other ideas?
