I would pay her hourly for overnight unless the flat fee is very similar. Staying overnight is a huge inconvenience for anyone! I never would have done it unless my employer made it really worth it to me, personally.

@PrincessBaby: our babysitter charges a flat fee of $200 per 24 hr period if we need her to do an overnight

I would pay her the $14/hour for the time that the kids are still awake before bed, and then for the hours that they're awake in the AM before the time shed normally come in. Then a flat rate for the time the kids are sleeping

@PrincessBaby: you could do it that way, or you could just say I was thinking I would give you X for this time through this time, and see what she thinks. So if say she has them from 6am day 1 then all night, gets up with them in the morning and watches them that day until you get home I would just figure out a fair rate for that time frame asleep or awake. Does that make sense?

@Bao: Thanks! I was hoping for that! So she would be paid hourly until they went to sleep then a flat rate? Or when do you "cut off" the hourly rate? Because she will be keeping them during the day, and then I would just be doing an overnight in another city, so I wouldn't come home that night and then I'd work the next day and come home after that.

I would offer a flat rate, that's how it's done around here. I used to be a nanny and my friend currently still is and that's how we both did it.

I know there are quite a few previous nannies on here...

My nanny is $14/hr. We have never discussed the cost of an overnight, just that she will do them if I need her to.

My girls are both asleep by 830/9, and sleep until 6/7. We live right next to the beach and our nanny lives 25-30 mins inland, so she travels a fair amount to get to/from our house. So if she stayed the night, that does save her traveling back/forth however she is engaged and would be missing time with her fiancé.

Do I offer a flat fee for overnights or is it just simply her hourly rate even though the kids and she will be sleeping?

How does this work?

Thanks for any advice!
