@Bluebonnet: yeah, we definitely want to keep her. She will go back to the same rate she is making now when I go back to work, but we can't afford to pay her the 2 child rate when I'm not getting paid. We currently have a 1 child and a 2 child rate in her contract to cover when 1 of the families is on vacation or needs an extra day.

I work from home and we have a nanny and 2 LOs. Previously LO1 was in daycare but we decided to pull her and have her home with a nanny and LO2 when I returned to work.

If I were in your situation and had a nanny I loved, I'd keep her during maternity leave (a good nanny is so hard to find)!! When If the other family drops out of the nanny share, could you afford a pay raise for the nanny for her to care for just your LOs?

We have a nanny and she worked for us as normal while i was out on mat leave. I think if you want to keep her for when you go back to work, you have to pay her while you are on mat leave, otherwise she will have to take another job because she has bills to pay too. Anyway, our nanny takes dd1 out and about all day, they are rarely at home except for naps and she kept the same schedule. It was nice because then i could nap when the baby napped and get stuff done around the house. We had my mil stay for a week and it wasn't a problem since the nanny and dd1 were out all day.

@Madison43: yeah, we love our nanny and I know she can't go 3 months without pay. She will already be taking a pay cut since we will be paying the single child rate for those 3-4 months and only 40 hrs per week instead of the 44.5 we do when I am working.

That's a bummer that their plans changed when you had such a good thing going on. We have a full time nanny now, and will keep her full time when LO2 arrives. Its mostly because we love her and want her to be our nanny forever, and like most people, she doesn't have the ability to take 4 months off unpaid. So full time pay it is. She'll probably work less than full time hours, just because I can't imagine I'll want someone else around ALL the time. I really just want her around enough so that LO1 will be able to continue classes, play dates, etc... uninterrupted and I can take a shower every day :silly:

My boss recently gave birth and while she was on maternity leave I had paid time off. Since she works a very demanding job and barely get to see LO 1 so she really wanted to have that quality 1-1 time with her kids. That said, I know many nannies that continued to work full time while their boss was on maternity leave. They take LO1 out during the day and help the household running like usual.

I most stayed at my boyfriend's house but since I am a live-in I was still around to help out occasionally.

I don't have any experience with a nanny, but I just finished maternity leave in which I kept my toddler (17 months) at home with me. Don't know if that is an option for you if you want to keep the same nanny for when your leave is over, but just wanted to say that it was totally doable having a newborn and a toddler on my own. I had been most worried about entertaining the toddler who had been used to going to daycare every day, but it wasn't an issue. Good luck!

We are currently in a nanny share with another family. It has been at their house for the whole time, but we are moving it to our house next month because the other mom is due in Sept and wanted to not have two toddlers running around her house during her maternity leave. The plan was to move it back to their house in Jan since I am due with LO2.

Yesterday, she told me that she is taking an extended maternity leave and since she will only be paid for the first three months, they can't afford to pay the nanny for the remainder of her maternity leave. She also mentioned that she had not decided if she was going back full-, part-time or not at all after that. So they are dropping out of the nanny share the month before I am due.

I'm kinda bummed because I really like them, the girls get along really well and now I guess I'm going to have my toddler and the nanny in the house during my maternity leave.

If you had a nanny for LO1, what did you do during your maternity leave for later LOs? How did you manage having so many people in the house? Did anyone else come stay with you, and if so, did you give the nanny some time off while they were there?
