@Ms.Badger: good idea, she tends to kind of rub her face on my shirt when she's tired. A lovey might be soothing.

@cherrybee; it's so hard sometimes!

@mrs. Bee: good reminder. I know I have to be better at watching her sleep cues.

at that age you have to be super aware of their awake intervals. it should be 2 hours maximum from the time they last woke up to when they're asleep.

keeping that in mind might help your LO fall asleep better when they're not wired from being overtired, but you may have to allow a little crying.

Same boat here too! S will go to sleep in her crib no problem, but only stays asleep for 30mins at a time unless I'm pushing her in the pram.

I'm going to make an unpopular suggestion, my LO didn't start to really self-soothe and put himself to sleep for naps until we gave him a lovey. It made a world of difference for my LO. Maybe see if your LO would like on of those small, breathable squares from A&A (mine only likes hand crocheted blankets)

What about having them get drowsy or asleep in your arms, transferring, and rubbing or patting their back to calm them if the wake/startle? It might need to be very firm/rigorous rubbing/patting at first, and might involve some light fussing or crying.

My suggestion (and bear in mind that I still hold my baby to get him to fall asleep, plus I put him down on his tummy because he sleeps better that way) is to do the same routine that you do at bedtime, hold her until she's asleep, hold her for a few minutes more, and then set her in the crib. Keep a hand on her for a few minutes. If she wakes up crying try to soothe her back to sleep in the crib - pat her bum or rub her back or something - and if that doesn't work then pick her up and try again. Maybe if she wakes up crying twice I might give up for that nap.

@SKINNYCOW: sorry we're in the same boat :bummed:

@lbee: thanks for sharing! I hope dd grows out of it soon. I shouldn't complain bc she's so snuggly, but it would be nice to get something done during naps.

@portboston: maybe some, a couple of minutes maybe? It just seems like her crying seems to escalate quickly when she's tired :meh:

Are you ok with any crying at all? We sleep trained our son around 7 months and at almost 15 months he still cries and fusses a bit before every sleep. It's just how he winds down.

Following for suggestions as we're mostly in the same boat. DD (also 7 months) will sometimes nap in her crib if I nurse her to sleep and then it's still about 50/50. If I hold her she'll nap for 1.5 hours and if I somehow manage to get her in the crib she naps 20-30 mins :crying:

I would love suggestions for how to get DD to nap in her crib. She will be 7 months next week and she's never slept in her crib for a nap. She has to be sleeping on us. She does awesome at night though, usually sleeping between 10-11 hours.

What we're tried for naps....
1. Laying down drowsy but awake. She either plays and then starts crying or will cry right away.

2. Holding her until asleep and then transferring her. She wakes up right away.

3. I've tried creating the same routine that we do at bedtime (e.g. sleep sack, feeding her a bottle in her dark room, having sound machine on).

Any other ideas or suggestions? CIO is not for me, but I'd like to hear other advice. Thanks!
