I'm glad to hear this is just a phase as it would be nice to have my arms free while he naps. I love the cuddle time but being able to eat or do something would be nice too.

I think it might be a phase. DD had a lot of problems with falling asleep for naps around that time and I had to hold her to sleep in a very specific position then very gingerly place her in her crib in slow-motion so as not to wake her. Sometimes she'd wake and I had to start all over again which is immensely frustrating but it passes. =)

@Weagle: we did the same thing for naps. LO would only nap in my arms, but once I started putting her on her tummy around 8 weeks, she napped fine in her crib and actually slept for awhile. She had great head control though and I watched her on the monitor for awhile.

My LO did that too. When she was a newborn I had to hold her if I wanted her to nap. If I put her down in the bassinet, swing, etc. she would scream. Nights she was a good sleeper laying down though. Then one day she refused to nap in my arms and only wanted to lay down somewhere else.

Phase! We went through the same thing. Just keep trying the crib and eventually it will click again :)

It's a phase! Mine did the same thing. :) I just let him sleep in my wrap sling and I wore him around while he napped.

My LO was the worst sleeper. He. Did. Not. Nap. He would sometimes doze 20min in my arms, but that was about it. He was also a terrible night sleeper. He finally started to nap in 1-2 hour stretches around 5 months, but I had to nurse him to sleep.

The thing with my son though was that he didn't seem tired. I discussed with our ped and she said that while it was unusual that he didn't nap much, he seemed healthy and happy otherwise, so that was just the way he was. Around 8-9 months, he turned into a champion napper.

For your son, this is probably just a phase, you definitely aren't doing anything wrong. I know how tough it can be to have a baby who won't nap. This too will pass.

In the early weeks we would rock him until he was drowsy (eyes started to close but would still flutter open) and then slowly transitioned into the crib. Then I would softly stroke his head while he fell asleep. We always had to do a tight swaddle and white noise for naps to be successful. He also took one nap each day in the swing until about 3 months old (I tried to keep it to only one so he wouldn't get too used to it).

We really struggled with naps for a long time, still do sometimes. I have nothing helpful to add really (sorry!) other than it's probably just a phase, just try different things and see what he responds best to. For us, we let her fall asleep in her arms then lower her into her crib, letting her head touch the mattress first (this bit is key, if any other part of her touches down first it's game over). Good luck!

Oh, I'll also add, at 10 weeks we started letting her nap on her tummy. It was the first time she had napped by herself. She had ridiculous head control, and I was constantly checking on her, so it wasn't as scary as it seems.

I have the same problem. She wakes up as soon as I put her down for naps. She will go down at night. She won't go to sleep on her own though, only in our arms or the rare occasion on the car seat if we are out.

Just a phase :). LO's naps (or lack thereof) have brought me many tears... If he's napping, just let him be. I'm convinced being able to nap alone is a development thing just like any other milestone.

Isaiah will be 9 weeks old tomorrow. He sleeps on his own at night and doesn't need to be held to fall back asleep after his late night/early morning feeding. The problem is during the day he will not nap unless I'm holding him. He falls asleep on my chest but as soon as I lay him down he wakes up, or if he does stay asleep it's only for five or ten minutes. I swaddle him and if he is not swaddled I do the arm test to see if he is really asleep. He's only been doing this the past two or three weeks.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? Is this just a phase?
