@L2sweetpea: She sounds like my daughter. Always so good at night but not during the day. I feel like she doesn't want to waste any time by napping during the day. Things to do...people to see. Maybe your LO is the same. Unfortunately, not all kids like to nap very much. My mom told me I was not big into naps either.

Thanks everyone! So far this morning for her first nap she wouldn't go back down at all so I figured that is traditionally a shorter nap (which it usually is). She is currently down for nap #2, which tends to be the nap where she wakes up and then will fall back asleep on us...I'm going to try the reading to her while rubbing her belly. We'll see. I just find it so funny that she can sleep really well at night, and the only thing that's different is it's daytime, and her naps are just so poor.

As everyone else has expressed, this is pretty common and your LO will either grow out of it or you will eventually do nap training. Definitely keep trying the crib but if you get tired of holding her, you can try to transfer her into a swing, if you have one, to finish the rest of the nap? I used this "cheat" until my LO was about 4 months.

my just-turned 4 month old is like this... she loves sleeping when held and definitely sleeps longest in her baby carrier. it's hard for me to break that habit though b/c she's in it so much (while I take DD#1 to school and run morning errands and do morning chores). I do try to have her nap at least once in the afternoon in her crib... I guess it's just a work in progress...

LO was the same way - nap for 20 minutes in the crib, but 1-3 hours in my arms. Makes for sore arms! But, we're now nap-training to get her to learn how to nap longer in the crib. No more arm-sleeping!

For us, we're having issues getting out 9 week old to sleep at night in his crib. It just takes time. Plus some babies sleep a lot better on their tummies (which I'm assuming your LO is when she's on you) v their backs. Ours is like this.

I have the same issue with my LO. He won't stay asleep in the crib (during the day only), but if I put him in his bouncer, he will sleep longer.

I would keep putting her down drowsy but awake... She should get the hang of it soon :)

She is swaddled for naps and at night. We have the miracle blanket and the summer saddle me...they both work great. She does sleep in the carseat after we drive or in the stroller. Just not long naps in the crib despite needing the sleep (evidenced by the continued nap on us after she wakes up).

have you tried a super tight swaddle like a miracle blanket? i think all babies sleep better when they're held rather than in a crib. :-)

Liv did this too. Still does. She's just a cat-napped. She takes several short naps throughout the day instead of fewer longer naps. But if she's in our arms she'll sleep for hours. We just go with it lol. Luckily, it means she naps anywhere-stroller, car, errands, etc

My daughter is 7 weeks old. A couple weeks ago we finally have been able to get her in the crib for naps versus napping on us (yay!). However her naps are anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour but then she will continue to nap on us for an hour or more. If I try to put her back down she wakes up. Any thoughts/suggestions to help her take her whole nap in her crib? She sleeps for 5-6+ hours in her crib at night so I'm not sure what the problem is.
