@pastemoo: I know...makes for some pretty fun evenings sometimes :) She's never been a sleepy baby and it has always been a struggle to get her to nap. But she usually gets enough sleep earlier in the day, so I'm not to worried about it. And I said that her afternoon nap is 1 hour, but its usually about an hour and a half.

@Mrs. Bee: That's awesome! G has always been an awake baby.

@pastemoo: Yeah, i also put her down about 1.5 hours after waking up. I found that the first nap was always the easiest and usually guaranteed.

I went through a rough patch around the 6 month mark too. I'm not sure if it was separation anxiety that started, but she would start wailing uncontrollably after i put her down for a nap. It lasted about a week, but it went back to normal (thankfully).

I too reached a point where I just wanted some sort of routine for my own sanity around the 5.5 month mark. We started getting into a schedule based on this:
http://noobmommy.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/EASY-Schedule-Cheat-Sheet.pdf

But I always allowed her to sleep if she really needed to and nurse when she wanted. Now it looks kind of like this:
7ish - wake
8:30-9 - nap (1-1.5 hours)
12:30-1 - nap (45min-1 hour)
4ish - catnap occasionally
7-7:30 - bedtime

@bree72: Good to know. I will try it!
@Mrs. Yoyo: Thanks!
@littlecasita1122: Wow. Your little guy sleeps much more than mine. He sleeps 8pm to almost 7am (with several wakeups--hungry little guy!).
@Mrs. Bee: Just realized... she slept 5 45 to 8 20? That is impressive!
@caffeinated: We had something similar going for awhile (9am, 12pm, 3pm naps) but somehow that got totally derailed.

Around 6 months, LO's schedule was:
7:20 wakeup
9am nap (1.5-2 hours)
1pm nap (1.5-2 hours)
4pm nap (40 minutes)
7pm bedtime

We started a schedule at around 8 weeks and we went by both sleepy cues and the clock. The older she got, it was harder to go by sleepy cues so i went by the clock.

She is now 7.5 months old, and her awake times have increased to about 2-3 hours, depending on what she's doing. She will always take two naps in the crib, and will take one short nap in the Ergo. I find that she sometimes won't take long enough naps and i end up having to put her to bed really early (which i hate).

I've been trying to get him into a 2-3-4 routine. This is a typical day:
Wakes between 5-6am for a quick nursing session. Back to sleep until 8am.
Nurse at 9am.
First nap at 10am (2 hours after he's woken up for the day). Usually sleeps for 45-60 minutes.
Solids around 11:30ish, bottle at 12:30pm.
Second nap at 2pm (or 3 hours after he woke up from first nap). Usually sleeps for 45-60 mins.
Bottle at 4pm.
Nighttime routines start at 6:45, he's usually asleep no later than 7:30pm after one last bottle.

This has worked really well the past couple weeks because I noticed his max awake time was increasing and he no longer needed a 3rd nap in the late afternoon. My LO is 5.5 months old. This will probably be re-adjusted when he finally starts sleeping straight through until 7am or when he takes longer naps than 45 mins.

@pastemoo: Oh, he'd play all morning and be happy as a clam. I just know he's tired because if I put him in his crib, he'll fall asleep. So, just experience, I guess. He gives clues in the afternoon that he's tired, but not much in the morning.

My LO is 5 months. This is her schedule.
7-7:15 up
~8:20/8:45-10:30 nap. I put her down when sleepy
12:10/12:15-2 nap
3:30/3:45-4:30 (i wake her)-nap
7-bed

I wake her if needed since I feed upon awakening. I will also rock her if she wakes early. Your LO may ve ready for a 2hr stretch between naps

He really put himself on a nap schedule. Like @littlek, they are somewhat based on his bottle times. He doesn't fall asleep on the bottle, but he's typically ready for a nap with 15 minutes afterwards. This has been our routine for the past month, so 6.5 months 'til now.

7 am - Wake
7:30 - breakfast (usually some banana slices and egg yolk) Since we do a lot of BLW this can take a half an hour+.
9:45 - 7 oz bottle
Asleep by 10 am
He'll nap for 45 min- 2 hours, usually
12pm - lunch (usually some veggies, or whatever I'm eating)
1:45 - 7 oz bottle
Asleep by 2 pm - and another 45 min - 2 hour nap.
6:45 last bottle of the day, then asleep for the night by 7 pm.

I didn't sleep train, but am lucky that, for naps at least, he likes to put himself to sleep. If he cries at all, I know he's not ready for his nap and play with him for another 15 min or so. Nighttime is a whole 'nother story.

This was Olive's nap schedule at 6 months:

8:20am – Wake up
9:45am – Nap 1 (30 min)
3:15pm – Nap 3 (30 min)

@littlek: Didn't realize there was a 6 month thing! He is a little grumpier than usual though.

My problem is not that anything has changed but that I suddenly want schedule in my own life so I can do some things--in the past I just went with the flow as a SAHM.
With the impending move, I'd like to be able to schedule various things so the move goes smoothly. Plus I might go back to work...
How did you decide on 10am, 11am and 2pm?

So far he usually takes no nap in the morning (wake up at 7am), and then takes mini naps in the carrier in the afternoon and his real nap is usually in the late afternoon (4 30 or 5 30), and sometimes a really short nap 6 45 to 7. Bedtime is 8.
Honestly I don't even know how many naps he takes.

We are struggling with naps too. Must be some kind of 6 month issue because my LO is 6 months too. I'm going to try for 2 naps in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. So firstshort nap around 10 a.m., then another short nap around 11 a.m. and then a longer nap around 2 p.m.

How did you go about starting a nap routine for your LO?

I have been going completely unscheduled for naps--I let him sleep when he gives me his sleepy cues. Or I go do things with him in the carrier and he naps on and off. (I am a SAHM so I can be more flexible.)

If possible, I would like to start up a more regular routine based on the clock but I don't even know where to start.

His night time sleep in based on the clock, with a little wiggle room depending on his sleepy cues.

He is 6 months old.

When did you implement a nap schedule? How did you do it?
