At 6 months we were still on 3 naps but that evolved into the 2-3-4 schedule around 7 months. LO just turned 8 months and that schedule is working great. We usually get a 2 hour nap from her in morning and 1 hour in afternoon. Sometimes we can't hit the 4 hour mark at the end of the day and she goes down a bit earlier. Her bedtime is generally around 7/730.

@daniellemybelle: I've noticed this as well and try for random play before the first nap and then before the second nap I try to spend more time working on skills and playing with more interactive (irritating) toys.

Thanks everyone! I think today I will just completely ignore the clock (which is so hard for my schedule loving self) and just see when he starts giving me his tired signals. Looks like we are close to what other babies his age are doing so now we just need to tweak it a bit. Thanks for the help!

Mine is 7.5 months and I had to stretch out the second awake time because she was having a hard time going down for her second nap. Around 6.5 mo, it was 2-2.5-3.5 and now it's 2.5-3-3.5.

We're nearly at 6 months, and our schedule is 2-2.5-3 like @Mrs. Yoyo. I would try both tiring him out more & putting him down earlier. My LO sleeps so much better if she gets a lot of meaningful stimulation (games/walks vs just the jumperoo/random toys) and if I put her down before she is overtired.

Having said that, I think it's normal for the first nap to go better than the second nap just because they are more tired in the morning. We are still rocking to sleep for naps but LO always fights her second nap a little no matter what we do.

We are just approaching 6 months, and our schedule looks a little like 2-2.5-3. Some days he wakes up early and I only get 30-minute naps and it's more like 2-2-2.5-3 or something.

So my bet would be a little OT, but it's a crapshoot. Experiment! :-)

At that time he was usually up by 6, first nap from 8/8:30-9:30/10, second nap from 12:30-1:30 and a cat nap from 3:30-4, bed at 7.

LO is 8.5 months and it's still hard for her to go 3 hours between naps. We kind of loosely do 2-3-4 but it often ends up being more like 2-2.5-3. I don't rigidly stick to any schedule...if she seems tired I put her down. On the weekends her schedule is normally wake at 8, first nap at 10 (til 11:30/12), second nap at 2/2:30 (til 3:30/4), bed at 7.

Our schedule at 6-7 months was:

7:30 - wake up
9 - 9:45/10 - nap
12 - 12:30/1 - nap
3:30 - 4 - nap
7:30 - bed time

I'm in the same boat regarding the second nap. I try to go by her cues to determine if she's tired - crying easily, red rimmed eyes and rubbing her eyes are all big indicators for me.

It has really helped to have a routine before putting her for a nap so she cues into what's happening. Our routine is: diaper change, go upstairs to her room, read a book, sound machine on, close the curtains, sing a song, and lay her in her crib.

at 6 months we were following the 2-3-4 schedule, but by 7 months we started doing every 3 hours between wake times... so 2 longer naps, then limited the 3rd nap to 30 min, so a catnap.

At 7mths we are doing 3-3-3 roughly. Sometime she seems more tired and sometimes less at the 3hr mark, but we just go with it and put her down and it seems to be working ok!

at 6 months we were still on 3 naps a day, occasionally 2 if they were both long naps. Our typical schedule was something like:

6:30am- wakeup
8:30am- nap 1 for hopefully 1.5 hours
12:30/1- nap 2 for hopefully 1.5 hours
5pm- short 30 minute cat nap
7:30pm- bedtime

during months 7/8 we went through the 3-2 nap transition and increased amount of time between her naps and also brough bedtime early for awhile.

My LO is 6 months - I think her natural pattern will be 2-3-4 but she's not quite there yet. She takes her first nap 2 hours after waking up, but needs her second nap 2 - 2 1/2 hrs after waking up from the first nap. If I waited 3 hours, she'd be a hot mess.. Her longest awake period is right before bed ...usually 3 plus hours ... But depending on how long her naps were, she usually needs a third cat nap before that final awake period.

We do 2-3-4 schedule (7 months). She only naps around 45 mins twice a day though :( and does the majority of her sleeping at night.

How long does your baby go between naps? We are following the 2-3-4 schedule which was working fine but now when we put LO down for his 2nd nap he rolls around and spins on his back until he gets so mad and stressed out that we have to go up and rock him to sleep. He goes down without a problem for the first nap. I can't figure out if he is overly tired or not tired enough for the 2nd nap. Thoughts? What is your schedule?
