No real advice just commiseration. My young 2 year old has been fighting her nap since before lock down but it’s worse now. She naps maybe 2x/week. We do keep her in her crib for 2 hours at nap time every day and she is happy there so I second the advice to get a gate to keep him in his room. The down time is important for you and him! I also have heard of kids that stop napping and then start again so fingers crossed there. My DD does make up for no nap in her night sleep so overall she’s pretty well rested. We do a 6:30 bedtime those days. Good luck!

@bhbee: @MrsSRS: Thank you! The door to the room doesn't properly shut, he just has to push to open it, and our bedroom doesn't even have a doorknob (we were in the middle of a reno when this started and still need to finish). A gate is a great idea. LO's room is right next to DH's office where he's on zoom calls all day, but I think he could go work in the kitchen or something if LO is pitching a giant fit about it.

@Clementine12: That's really encouraging that she started napping again. I'm sure a big part of it is that I often can't give him enough attention to get him to go down with the baby....

Can you babyproof the room, gate it, and treat the whole room like a crib?

My DD had a nap strike when I was on maternity leave this winter when I couldn't give any time to her to get her down. She will listen to me though when I say she has to stay in her bed and in her room. Once the baby started napping on a schedule, my nanny would sit in the room with DD until she slept (which i would never have the patience for...) But once she started napping she got back into that groove. She'll be 3 in May.

Agree with @LadyDi: naps are more likely when DD has done something to burn some energy in the morning.

The worst is when they won’t nap but fall asleep later! Can you shut him in his room and move out anything dangerous / make it really boring in there? At least buy yourself some time even if he’s not sleeping? Not sure what your door setup is, but we definitely had a time when we replaced many of the lever handles with knobs because ds couldn’t open them yet! I can’t remember the age though. He’s also a kid who required a high up extra lock on the front door so he wouldn’t go out in the sidewalk by himself ...

@LadyDi: I wish, but unfortunately he can climb out so his younger sister inherited the crib. I think outside does help, though today it was in the 30s and rainy. I need to think of more ways to have him burn energy when we can't easily go out.

Though when his dad took over for today at 4 so I could do some work, he promptly passed out on the living room floor, his dad carried him up to bed, and he took his longest nap since quarantine started 6 (7? 8???) weeks ago. Why, child, can you not do that for me??? 😒

Is he in a bed or is he still in a crib? If he’s in a crib I would probably just ignore him for as long as he should be napping. Are you able to get him outside at all to burn some energy off? Or maybe an inside trampoline? I agree it’s young to drop napping, I would just be consistent and keep trying.

My 2 year old has been on a nap strike all week long. I've only gotten him to nap one day, and that was for 20 minutes. He also refuses to have quiet time in his room. And he has not made it up by extra sleep at night.

He's on the younger side of two, and I feel like he's too young to stop napping altogether - he's obviously tired and cranky. But I would settle for quiet time in his room. I know the standard tip is to just keep putting him back in his bed with a basket of books or quiet activities until he learns to stay there. Unfortunately, I'm inevitably trying to feed his baby sister during part of the never-ending effort to get him to nap, which makes it hard to repeatedly put him back in bed. He sees that and starts running around like a little maniac.

Obviously the whole situation is not helped by the fact that I'm supposed to be working, so getting him to nap or have quiet time would be really, really, really useful. Anybody else have a kid go on a nap strike that later went back to napping? Tips?
