Gah, so yesterday was awesome and today he is NOT letting me put him down... soooo much crying and screaming, had to go back to the rocking and bouncing and even that wasn't really working. Maybe yesterday was just a fluke? Noooo... :(

@erinbaderin: I reeeeeally hope so. He also usually only naps for 30 mins and it's been over an hour!

@jape14: I hope that's what's happening now!

We didn't intend to nap train, but once we trained for bedtime (falling asleep on his own), he was able to go to sleep by himself at naps with basically no intervention. It was unexpected but amazing! We didn't train further (e.g., for extending naps) than that.

We did bedtime first, and not naps mostly because since I was on mat leave I was doing most of the naps and I didn't think I could handle it (my husband did the nights). Our sleep consultant told us that for babies, nighttime sleep and nap sleep were largely unconnected and so only doing one wouldn't hurt the other. So we did nighttime and I kept rocking him to sleep for naps until one day he seemed like he was reaching for his crib so I put him down, just to see, and he went to sleep. Fingers crossed that this is the new normal for you!

We did it all at once. It didn't make sense to me that we would treat nap and bed differently - the goal is learning to fall asleep alone.

We started sleep training LO doing modified CIO (although the checks didn't really help so really it ended up being full CIO). It's been a few days and working so well. Barely cried at all last night before falling asleep. I haven't been doing training for naps because the book I'm using said to start with bedtime first, and I know naps can take longer. We usually have to rock LO and put in the pacifier until he's almost fully asleep before putting in the crib.

For this current nap, he didn't seem to want the pacifier so I just put him down in the crib and went to the bathroom. Came back and he was asleep! I'm in shock. Just wondering, if you sleep trained, did naps naturally improve on their own, or did you have to nap train? I'm trying to figure out if this was just a fluke or what!
