@heartonastring: 3 hours, that would be so nice. I get excited when R naps an hour and half.

@JoJoGirl: Just know that you have to keep her busy busy to keep her up for awhile.

Okay, you all have me convinced she's ready to drop to one nap at home (and probably stick to two at daycare). Her "am nap" has been getting super long - usually 2-3 hrs, so it makes sense.

Thanks all :)

My DD's on one nap now (13.5 mos). When she first started daycare (12 mos) we tried one nap and it did NOT work, so we went back to two. Then a week or two ago she refused her morning nap every single day so we dropped it and now she's a sleep superstar, napping a solid 3 hours most days (12-3).

Agree that it seems like she just needs 1 nap! My DD transitioned around a year and I fought it tooth and nail until she was fighting both naps and bedtime. Hard to keep them up later but it will fall into place!

@Smurfette: Yeah makes sense she's more stimulated at daycare so things would be different there. A few weeks ago I asked how they get her down for her afternoon nap, and they said "I don't know.. she gets tired after her bottle and falls asleep". Helpful, thanks! ;)

Thanks all. It's strange because she IS tired - ie will fall asleep early if we rock her (and gets cranky, rubs eyes etc), but can't go down on her own anymore. My instinct has also been she's ready to drop to 1 (later) nap so I guess I should just listen to myself!

@Smurfette: Daycare is somehow magically able to still get her down for 2 naps, but they wake her early from her morning one. She sleeps 10-11am and then 1:30-2:30 usually at daycare. At home I struggle to get her down at 10:30am and she often sleeps til noon. Yesterday she slept 10-11:30 and then I couldn't get her to nap again the entire day - tried at 3:30, 4, 4:30. She conked out hard at bedtime.

@JoJoGirl: I agree with PP, definitely time to try one nap. Mine fought both as well - we went cold turkey to a nap starting around 11. It was SHORT at first and he went to bed at 6 pm, it naturally lenghtened to 2 hours and then slowly moved back until it was from about 1-3 and has been for several months.

@Charm54: R moved up rooms at 12 months and would be fine with one nap there. But not at home on the weekends, they are more stimulated there. So at 15 months she finally is consistently down to one nap a day. but annoying we can't go anywhere unless one of us sits in the backseat or she falls asleep.

If she's starting to fight BOTH naps, I think she is probably ready to go to 1 nap. I don't think 13 months is too early, my LO dropped to 1 nap around 11/12 months. I would start to make the transition to 1 nap and see how it goes.

ETA- I'm willing to bet this isnt a case of needing to be sleep trained again, but I am guessing she just simply isnt tired enough for 2 naps anymore. I bet if you pushed the morning nap further out- say 11 am, she would go down easier and without too much fuss...

@JoJoGirl: I think usually people move the morning nap later- so the one nap is at 11 or so. You could try that?
Has it been consistently like this for a while? My daughter sometimes has a few rough days in a row.

No advice since my LO is only 9mo, but the daycare she will be going to (I'm in Canada so they start daycare mostly at 12 months) is only on one nap schedule. I was concerned that it was young to drop her second nap , but the daycare owner assured me that though she can give my DD 2 naps, most babies are ready around 12mo or transition very soon after starting.

So maybe she's ready ??

@Silva: Yeah, that was my thought as well for her afternoon nap - which is why i often let her skip it. But she's fighting her morning nap too :( She's usually really tired, ie will fall asleep instantly if we rock her, but has lost the ability to put herself down.

She could be transitioning to one nap if this has been going on for awhile....I know several babies who switched pretty close to a year.

LO is a rock star sleeper at night now (finally) - goes down really easily in the evenings around 7, puts herself to sleep, STTN 11 hours consistently for months now. Yay.

Naps are a TOTAL NIGHTMARE. We originally nap trained her when she was maybe 9 months old, and for a while was able to go down for both naps on her own.

Then her afternoon nap got tricky and she started skipping it. The only way we'd be able to get her down is if DH rocked her to sleep, which he hasn't had to do since she was like 5 months old.

Now she is starting to fight her am nap as well. Yesterday I rocked her to sleep for the am nap and she completely refused her afternoon nap.

I think she's too young to get ready to drop it? And she's FAR TOO OLD for us to be rocking her to sleep!

We try leaving her to CIO for naps when we can't get her down and usually can't last longer than 15-20 mins... now that she is older, it's so sad to watch her get hysterical and cry big crocodile tears and yell for us. I'm not sure how long it would take for her to finally fall asleep - she is SUPER SUPER stubborn.

Any advice would be appreciated, poor kid is so sleep-deprived!
