@Freckles: I'm counting on her doing what everyone else is doing.

@Sammyfab: this sounds like pretty good advice. I will try to replicate the night routine excluding the bath.

I'll start with just trying to have her take every nap in the crib and see what happens. Good to hear that daycare naps worked out for your LO.

I would use a similar routine for naps that you use at night if that's working well! Something you have to keep in mind with nap training is that naps are short (in comparison to night sleep), so you only have so much time to work with before the nap is bust. For sure there will be crying because she's protesting change, but the key is to be 1000% consistent.

Because she takes her morning nap so early I wasn't going to suggest one nap just yet. I've seen recommendations to limit both naps to an hour but since the morning one seems more reliable I'd let it be a little longer (we never limited the morning nap unless it went past noon).

I also wanted to chime in about our daycare experience and naps. My LO is a creature of routine and he only napped in ideal conditions prior to daycare. I was soooo scared when he started but he has done amazing. The first day he napped there he played in his crib, tossed and turned and dozed off for maybe 20 minutes. After a few days he got the hang of things. He's not a big napper but he now sleeps on a floor mattress and falls asleep no problem.

@plantains: Before daycare, *I* was the only one who put her down. I was afraid of how she would react if someone else put her down. There will be a transition period for sure, but i find that babies see what others are doing and accept it. I'd definitely try and work on a routine for now though. Good luck!

I'm having this problem in that we have to rock S for his naps while he just lies down and goes right to sleep at night. We've tried to put him down for naps the same way, but he just stands up and screams in his crib

@Freckles: I'm not sure yet, I will have that info in a few days. I think there are kids in the room she is in who are still on two naps. The first one is at 9.30 and the second one is at 1 or so.

@Freckles: this i what I am hoping for. I am worried that when I go in with her for the transition period and they try to put her down she will freak out.

Mine naps at around 11:30am. I find that daycare keeps her so busy that she fights through it. What's the new daycare's nap schedule like?

@Freckles: Because she wakes up so early, she definitely can't make it until early afternoon without a nap. She is pretty much exhausted by 9.

@Sammyfab: she doesn't use a lovey no. At night we follow the routine, put her in sleepsack etc and she goes down after talking to herself for about 30 seconds.

I probably should limit her morning nap. maybe I will satrt waking her up after 90 mins.

I think you'd be surprised by how well she starts to nap when at daycare. I have a lot of friends whose babies are horrible nappers but sleep well at daycare because everyone else is sleeping.

But in the meantime, i think @mrbee and @sammyfab have some good advice!

I think that if you develop a good nap routine and you stay consistent with whatever nap training method you choose, then she may surprise you! I would put her down maybe 15-20 minutes before you want her asleep. Does she use a lovey or anything?

In regards to the 2nd nap, my guess is that she would occasionally refuse it because the first nap was too long.

@Sammyfab: the morning nap is very predictable, she takes it between 9-9.30 for about 1.5 - 2 hours and then the afternoon nap was much more hit or miss and usually happened around 2 for about 45 mins.

My big problem is getting her to lie down in her crib and go to sleep at nap time. Night sleep is perfect, she was sleep trained at 4.5 months and did beautifully. I wish I dealt with the naps then.

Naps (and sleep in general) have always about timing for us. Did your nanny keep a log for when your LO typically took her naps and for how long?

So my 13.5 month old takes 1 or 2 naps a day, but she will only sleep in her jumperoo or stroller. I know this is an awful habit, but I had let her nanny carry on with this because it made life easier for everyone.

Well, now she is starting daycare in September and needs to be able to go down for naps in the crib. I want the transition to daycare to be as smooth as possible for her, so I am thinking nap training is in order to get her sleeping in her crib but don't even know where to begin. Help!!!
