If I were you, I’d do the same thing you did for night training. It’s a routine he knows and understands.

I recommend getting a routine down as well. It’s helped my LO so much! He is 7 months next week.

Also, will he be sleeping in the crib at nights too or just naps? Personally I would do bot together but I am not sure if you just want naps...

I sleep trained very slowly because LO was in our room. I played with him in his crib/new room making it a positive experience. I also nap trained first for a couple of days. Sleep training was easier because of all of the above. I do nurse him twice at night but only after 1am. He knows how to self soothe.

I took long showers and put headphones in my ears when I was training so I didn’t hear the crying :(

Okay so after agonizing over this with two kids this is my advice. Have a solid routine, put him in the crib, walk out. Don’t go back in until he’s slept and nap is over.

@Mrs. Goose: Thank you! That makes me feel better knowing he’s capable and that they cry bc they’re angry about the change etc. It’s going to be hard but I have to get this started soon!

Since he can sleep on his own at night by going in the crib awake, he CAN do it for naps too. He just doesn’t want to. This is what a sleep consultant told me. And they said once they can fall asleep solo for a nap or at bedtime when put in completely awake then they can do it so just keep trying. Their drive to sleep is stronger at night obviously because they’re more tired, but just try to keep nap time environment and routine as close to bedtime as you can, like white noise, dark, sleep sack, same book, etx. I have a 5 mo th old and he goes into the crib awake for al naps and bed, but I did naps first for two weeks and then did bedtime after that. I think most people do it the other way or all at once, but I wanted to tackle the thing that was harder for him first. I did the same thing with my first baby.

The other thing the sleep consultant said is that they’ll cry because they’re mad that you’re changing their routine and previous method of falling asleep.

I haven’t heard of the swing method. I just do cio with checks initially and rocking and shushing and then move to extinction because that has worked with my kids.

Hi everyone,

I’m starting to look into a nap training plan for my 7mo and was looking for some suggestions to come up with a plan.

We cosleep at night and for naps I side lie nurse him to sleep on our bed where he takes his naps. This started because every time I put him in the crib asleep he would wake up. I don’t mind nursing him to sleep for naps it’s just now he’s more mobile and can climb over the pillows on the bed so I need to change this. Sometimes lately if I lay him on me laying down in bed he’ll fall asleep as well. I don’t mind this either bc I know the snuggles won’t last forever but it’s transferring somewhere else to sleep that’s the issue.

I was thinking about doing the “swing method” but it’s recommended for 6m and under. I’m familiar with the Ferber method and extinction method but wanted to see what other options I have. I tried laying him in his crib one day last week and he was hysterical.

I sleep trained him a couple months ago for bedtime except recently I changed the bedtime routine so nursing is 20-30min before bedtime therefore he goes down completely awake and he’s doing well. Still waking up a few times a night though (need to work on night weaning).

Any suggestions on how to get started on nap training and getting him to sleep in the crib? Or any other suggestions for naps? Could I try the swing method? I know some may suggest laying him in his crib awake at nap time and do CIO but it’s so hard to listen to him cry. I know it’s probably going to be what to have to do :bummed:

TIA!
